Hi a friend of mine was clearing out her shed and came across a Wold air brush numbered 60697. It has patent dates from 1916 to 1923 I think... its a little hard to read them It was inside its own box inside it says The Wold Air brush manufacturing company Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A If anybody would like to see a picture of it let me know I will take a few. What my friend would like to know is its age and what it could be worth.
many thanks

It's an old airbrush that collectors may be interested in! I've only seen them sell on ebay! I think it is only worth what a collector is willing to pay at the time!

While Wold created one of the first dual action brushes, there are several companies who made them (dual action brushes), and there were a great number of evolutions in designs/features, as well as in materials used.

The people at Wold are as nice as you could ask for, they can probably help you on dating the brush's time of production. If the number you gave is a serial number, then it is fairly early in that model's life.

As far as a value goes, you might get $25-$80 if you find someone who is desparate to get that particular model. But there aren't a whole lot of collectors for the Wold brushes per se, more like general collectors who would be interested in adding it to their collections.
They're actually nicely made brushes, they just kind of faded from the scene when the German and Japanese brushes came into the market. They (Wold) didn't progress as fast as the imports and competitors did, so they kinda got left in the dust, so to speak.

yep a lot of companies just never kept up with things and the jap imports just like the chinese are doing took a big chunk of the home brand domestic markets

to be honest i was surprised the new company opted for replicating the old wold design word for word but nowadays retro is all the rage so mabe it was a good marketing ploy

unfortunatly unless you are either of a certain age or have an interest in the history of airbrush manufacture then as this thread proves most folk will never have heard of wold

to be honest the main developments in airbrush technoligy where nailed down during the early years and as i said earlier everything else is knockoff technoligy

it doese make me laugh when folk bash chinese stuff for being iwata knockoffs

Rich pen have been accused of being iwata knockoff yet no one mentions how olympos developed the micron which Iwata are so proud of or that all thier models are closely based on olympos even down to model descriptions such as hp hp c etc

its all a bit chicken and egg

isn't it funny how often the designers got it right the first time back in the day? They're still trying to duplicate the sound of the first electric guitars, and no matter how many people try to improve it, the tattoo machine hasn't changed one little bit in over 100 years!
