I am new to the site. I am a beginner in airbrushing. I would like to find out how is it I start to make my own stencils of art that I want to do? All responses are greatly appreciated.

welcome from Michigan.
Stencils can be cut out of a variety of things, from disposable like paper, manilla folders, cardboard etc...or something you can have around for awhile...such as mylar, acetate, or vinyl. Some of the influences concerning stencil material depends on what you're gonna paint with...if you're using urethanes, acetate would not work, as it will melt. Same with some vinyls.
I believe you can buy plain stencil material through some airbrush sources.
As I work mainly in waterbased...I usuall use acetate, it cuts easily (score and snap, like drywall).
Hope this helps!

Welcome to teh board!

I use acetate, paper, mylar sheets, old X-ray film...

Bottom line, almost anything can be used for shields when working with acrylic paints.

Hi Craft,

Welcome to the forum!
Like Colourshift said, there's lots of possibilities for stencil material.
In addition to cutting by hand with an Xacto blade, you can use scalpels (I've found good deals on ebay ), plotters are used to cut stencils and masks too.

lots to learn, lots of nice people here to help!
Have fun!

Hey Crafter, 1st off Welcome 2 da 4um!!! As fer stencils, I prefer da old skool wayz... If you can draw thats a plus but not necessary... Ya need 4 important ingredients; 1) Patience (it's a virtue, so I've been told) 2) my preference is poster board it's cheap (Walmart), 3) an exacto knife (also Walmart) & 4) an #2 pencil (get anywhere, if you find one on the ground even better it's free)... Sketch image on the poster board then slice & dice.. It's that simple my friend...
