eh hows it going? well i started airbrushing about 3 months ago i also work at a body shop. my question is all solvent based paint will be removed in 2011 form the automotive except clear and primers sealers only base will change. i just bought the iwata kustom cm now to shoot waterborne you need stainless steal needles and ya as water base will damage the gun inless you clean the gun right away with a solvent like thinner or gun wash. the reason im explaining this is because some people might not know but is the iwata kustom all stainless or no? i dont really want to clean with thinner when i can clean with water. and if not is there a point of me getting more iwata kustom airbrushes or are there others that was use waterborne?

Welcome to AirbrushTech Yamaha89.....
I'm moving your thread to the airbrushes section and editing your title so we can sort out and answer your questions for you...
Please go to the Introduce Yourself section and tell us more about yourself and where you are located....

Given the change to waterborn paints for autobody is 3 1/2 years away as you describe, I would most suggest that you just start using that kustom cm without worring too much about stainless parts....
The Kustom cm has teflon seals that will allow solvent or waterborn painting....
I think you have some misinformation as to whether the waterborn will damage the parts or a real need for stainless, as the main deal is proper cleaning no matter what paint type you run thru it.....

Welcome to AirbrushTech and some others will be along with more answers for you Yamaha.....

there is not an airbrush that im aware of that will not acept waterbased howver there are plenty that wont take solvents

you concerned therefor should have been the other way around but most high end airbrushes now use teflon or viton paint seals which can be used with either system
there is no neeed to wash your guns out with solvent and waterbase will not damage your gun however the same is not true about solvent as reclaimed gun wash solvent is high in acids and atacks brass ,i have an iwata w100 spraygun where the pickup tube has split in several places due to being left soaking in gunwash and this took less than a year of regular use and cleaning to happen

well as long as it is stainless. to the jimmy its not the fact that cleaning the gun is all you have to do if you have a gun with no stainless parts the water in the paint will damage the gun but i thought of what jumpforjoy61 but i wanted to make sure i want to get use to the pant befor i do anyones car. this paint i think is pretty stupid inless clear is put on you can just wash it off with water if you really think about it would be great for mistakes or bad preping alright thanks alot everyone.

yep automotive waterbased is a complete pain as not only can it be washed off it also takes excesive time to flash off and in damp atmospheres it will remain emulsified indefinatly so even giveing it overnight to cure wont automaticly work

if you are doing artwork as you would with a micron then i dont think this is the paint for you anyway ,i would concider artist grade stuff such as comart or media jurek which is acording to media the only textile /hard surface paint that will spray througha 0.18 micron right out the bottle ,the big bonus is its very cheap as well as very good

Sorry guys , I'll have to disagree with some of the stuff here. I've been using AA since I started ABing. Ican push this stuff through a micron to draw skull on a quarter. I clean it out of HP-B+, CM, CS, mojo with soapy water. Using the 4011 reducer this flashes in minutes (high humidity up here in canada). I've cleared over AA within 30 min. Never had a problem

no one was talking about AA we are on about the new waterbased automotive basecoats which are nothing like AA ,i think you got a bit mixed up there L

most art grade waterbased will flash off in seconds and yes autoair flashes fast as well but the new automotive waterbased paints dont and are not waterproof untill cleared either so will take humidity up from the atmosphere

autoair is not a true automotive refinishing system and realy isnt anything like PPG envoirobase Standahyde etc
