Hey everyone,
this is one that kicked my butt!
I don't do faces very well...case in point...as well, I ran the clear 3 times, so this one was wet sanded and re-cleared 3 times!! Needless to say, it is quite smooth!
I need to get to work on honing my paint skills on human faces and skintones.
Back to basics!!

oh man that's really wicked... his left eye seems a little too high but that could be because of the curves surface. who said you can't paint human face this one is awesome. Always nice to see you're work, glad you're back.

whne you clear. they way i learned. ive been paint 8 years. to many cars and parts to list. but lay clear on first coat med wet. almost dry spray look. then 2 nd coat lay that out like its sposed to look. the 3rd you should be bale to spray like 2nd coat. it takes practice. but when i was learning to paint. i did it this way till i got feel for it. now i can lay clear to anyway i want. and ill get runs once and great while but never on 1st coat. if you get in 2nd or any other coat after, it will buff out. but never get one in first.
great work, and keep practicing. i hope this helps ya.

on the first pics with the skull there's white splatters? if not, thats what it does for me when I use white, but much more, how do you get rid of that?? :\
That thing should glow in a ice rink..Good show Man!!
Case of the runs huh??...LOL....Did ya run it early in the Clear session??....My runs usually show up toward the last coat when/if I get jumpy..hahaha..Most times I just sand am flat and buff, no worries...But I also know I have plenty of clear down from the other coats.

looks nice! I get antsy doing the clear too.....have a habit of not waiting long enough between coats and getting a "hang" on the last wet coat! We must learn PATIENCE!

Patien.....see I'm not even patient enough to spell patience!
Ya, clearing is an art form unto itself as far as I'm concerned.
I wish I had someone close enough to farm out all my clear work to....but on the other hand, if I can master the clear coat part, then I can take a little more pride in knowing I completed the job myself...so, I guess I keep workin' it out.
But the face thing, that is something I REALLY need to get stronger at..
thanks guys for the comps...I appreciate it.

Well Gordon,
frankly I was just glad to get this one done, you know how it goes sometimes?
I guess in a way, I am happy with how the overall helmet looks, just can seem to get a good handle on realism...not something I've had to do a lot of, so I just need to keep pushing I guess.
How ya doing by the way?
Hows the weather over the sea? (Let me guess...raining?...ha ha )
excelent work as always mob....................:clap::clap::clap:

Frank, the way i learned was to put the 1st coat on real thin, and immediately go back over it before the flash time is reached. The 2nd coat bonds to it and melts into it with a lot less potential for runs, drips, or errors. Then, the 3rd coat after normal flash, kinda heavy, so when you buff, you still end up with 2 and 1/2 coats.

yup your way i do also. just saying how i first learned and practiced. see as long as you put clear on somewhat nice. you can buff to make perfect. its all about wet sanding and buffing to look mirror finish.

SKIN TONES are easy candy root beer over white or mix it with some white base coat and then shade with it. add some retarder and avoid tip dry makes all the difference also adding intercoat or a transparent makes it more forgiving. But I can't stress how much that retarder helps. It stops the paint from coming out grainy

Really???...I've used kandy root beer for certain shades in skin tones....Never just it alone though...Not even close to skin in a bottle IMO, just a certain shade of many that make up skin.....Most times I do skin it's a minimum of 3-5 shades of color.....Just me though, lots of ways to skin a Cat:D
probably should say "skin" one more time for good measure..hahahahaa..Yeah I'm a Dork:D

I have to agree it doesn't give you the pinks or the purples but it does give a good base. I should say it's a good start for skin tones.

NICE!!!!

I always use an off white/tan for a base...Usually the lightest tone that'll be on the skin...Then start adding the other shades and tones..
This was one of the 1st skin attempts I ever tried. I used the rootbeer at the end for shading, I think it worked a treat, warmed the tones up a bit. Just experimenting really, hence the rootbeer..hahaha

Did you ever mix the root beer with white then you can ad a touch of red also add a bunch of intercoat and make it transparent. I like to order from sks bottles and premix my colors I'll get you a link save you a ton of dough ordered a 50 pack of screw top bottles for like $20 probably more now ordered them 3 years ago got about 7 left unused so I'm due for more they are solvent proof also
