View Full Version : Panel wipes and Autoair
Did a quick search couldnt find what I wanted.
What panelwipes can safely be used to wipe over a panel before clearing when the artwork has been done with AA.
The reason I,m asking is the new guy I am working with (he will do my basecoats n clearing) asked me.

Frog, drown the surface in DXP330 or SureSolv and let it drip and dry (just like McCully). That is also safe with ETAC

Can't give any better answers than what's here..Heard of peeps using some kinda mild solvent..(probably the stuff mentioned above)...The tack rags and all.
Question for CB...I luuv me some microfibers:clapping2:..LOL...Only thing I'll touch my clear jobs with...I always tell customers "if you use the average Towel like most wash/dry their car with..It'll never look as good as it does now..Go buy a Microfiber"..Once I'm making some $$..I'm giving one away with every job that leaves here...Most around here have never heard of em..I think it'd be a spiffy touch.
Anywho (sorry for the book.lol)...Mine aren't the same you posted, I notice if I wipe semi rough paint lil fibers will stick to the paint work....Smooth clear no problem..But waterbased art tends to get rough, jagged in spots ya know...I take it these don't do that? They hold together pretty well??
I'm always up for trying good stuff..LOL...........I hate tack rags, never tried a solvent, can't use water.haha...I use high air pressure...Blast it with 100+psi..:D....Doesn't take care of any greases/oils that might slipped on..But I keep my chicken grease fingers away best I can..hahaha

Dell After You,ve washed them at Least once They loose the loose Threads that Your talking about . Of Coarse I dont play with Waterbase. Unless I Absolutly have to .
But if I did I would use a Touch of 3812 enamel reducer On the backside of the Rag. Just a very lil bit to dampen the front. Might not make sense but it helps Draw any Contaminents into the rag. & will Kill the static Electricity too. Just what allways has worked for Me .
& You Bet Yer ass There aint Nuthin better on a finished clear Surface , dont Know how Many times I pissed of a customer Because They use them damn shop Or bath towels. Cuz I Threatened to kick There ass when They brought it back & said the Clears not as Clear as it Used to be. Dumbasses . hehe . Whoever said the customers allways right was Full of it IMO.

On waterbased...I wash the entire panel with some "Final wash" it's a very mild solvent. I always do and no problem from it. You just need to go lightly on it and you can put alot so it gets really wet than just leave it to evaporate, in a matter of second it's dry... I then wipe with a dry fiber cloth to complete. the panel is spot less after.... Plus when it's wet it give you an idea of how it will look when you clear that sucker.

I'll have to give those a shot...I've washed mine countless times...Still loose some fibers if dragged over something sharp........Good idea about the chems on the backside of the cloth.....I have wicked static probs in winter...With Uros it's not a major prob, I just run water over the part, blow dry with high AP, seems to get rid of it....Can't dry it by hand or it just comes back.
hahaha, Yup people crack me up all the time like that..LOL....Spend a day detailing their car, dry it with the same towel the dry their ass with..hahaha, Clear's spiderwebbed all ta hell and they rave over their shiny goods.....Most of the finishes are shot from the factor anyway, all orange peely and the like..LOL......People don't know or care far as I can tell.
Damn think we could start a whole thread by itself with just every ones tips and tricks to keeping dust/static and such away..LOL

Yip I've heard of the ole ground strap trick...Never do anything like full cars here so i never had the chance to try it....The worst I've found for static collectors are snowmobile cowls....Some reason them damn things are full of it..hahaa
