My first actual full try at a T. I had it nearly complete on the 17th, took till today to get a little time to finish it, a couple hours from the previous. I can see all kinds of things that need fixing, but it'll do for my first full shirt. Onward & upward, feedback welcome, thanks to Luc and Clinton, Whit and Denise for all the support & tips!:dog:
Thats cool, I,m gonna have to try a T, and I bet mine would'nt come out as good as that.
Well done.
Michael
Looks good Dog, I'm sure you will have another one ready before this one is worn out. You did a nice job and everyone has no problem seeing who it is.

I gotta remember to stop and dry stuff, otherwise I make a mess, lol. Hurried a bit to finish it and I notice, all of a sudden, its fluffing up, gettin nasty. Fun stuff though, gonna try another soon for my wifes step dad who is in the hospital.
That will probably help him on his road to recovery !!!
Caution tho,,, T's can be habit forming:partyalone:

Wow great work Dog! I really like the detail in the hair and glass's! I dont know what your process was but next time on a black T try laying down a base layer of black then as your layers start to build up or you start to get a little overspray you can go back with the black and knock it out. Thats awsome work! Next time, skip the pocket! :tee:

Very nice blinddog. It kinda seems like a waste for that kinda art on a t shirt. But thats just Me. Looks very nice finished. & just curious, Did You do that SRV mural on the wall in Yer house ( I seen it in anuther thread ) It looks great to, but just doesn,t do it justice without his signature hat , hehe. awesome work. Hi FB, its a pocket T for a personal reason, just had to do it that way, lol.
Cowboy the mural in my house is ditigal. It was a photo that was released for an after death anthology that was compiled. If you bought early, you got this little poster with the CD/DVD set. The poster is about 11 x 14". The mural in my house is the material I manufacture, which is laminate, (like Formica) only digitally imaged. Disney buys tons of it from us.
And you're right, its too much for a T, but its just a keepsake I'll wear from time to time, will last me a long time.

Het Scott, that's pretty nice stuff.
Similarly to what Full Blast posted, dont be afraid to come back with some black to add some shadows. Pay close attention to the dark areas within the subject itself. I'm sure there are some dark areas...almost as dark as the T itself. By adding these you will give more depth in you painting
From looking at the picture, looks like you are a bit too close to the white values....not enough black...or grey. The fun thing is that if you over do with the black, you can always come back with some white to fix things. When I do this, I call it detailing.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks Luc, I probably should have posted the original, he is bathed in soft spotlight, and it was a very contrastry pic. I definitely missed the contrast on his T shirt, it should all be lighter, with much darker shadows, but still learning. Then the shadows would pop more. In his face, that is quite close to how the reference pic looked, but I gave up on the beard, couldn't quite get the detail I was looking for. Anyway, thanks for the review, it means a lot to me...... better next time for sure!

Glad to help Scott!! Anything I can do to help...just ring me!!
The important thing here is that you ARE painting. Every painting that you do from now on is experience that you aquired.
Great stuff!!

Hey full Blast, I didn,t mean to sound like I was against t shirt painting. All I meant was the time involved & the detail would make more sence ( To Me ) on sumpthin much more lasting. Speacially since sumpthin like that would take Me years to paint IF then. Sorry If I came off wrong. Cowboy
Been in and around paint most of my life it seems
in one catagory or another,,, signwork at present,,
but T-shirt painting was new to me a few years
back and turned into a fun thing since I've got a
daughter that's of T-shirt (pop) age !!!
If a T is done right,, it's good for several years and
always gets picked when changing clothes so there
are certain rewards in it as well as the fun painting !!!
The fabric I've found to be a great experimenting
material to play with different applications being
it tends to be more forgiving than some surfaces !!!
Granted,,,, the same time applied to a better surface
can increase the value of your time,,, but until there's
a customer for it,,, it's your investment,,, but a T,,,,,
it's got a customer,,, right out a tha box,,, waitin:partyalone:

:) :ybeer: Thanks Whit:cheers: Cowboy... Sorry didnt mean to be to terrably offended!:tee: Not that I want to promote a particular life style but some of the best portraits are bein done on T's. Just checkout Airmagination.com etc... Ya, I know that this is not everyones cup of tea, but the art work is often amazing! Besides if we are makin money using our talents some times you cant beat what you can make doin T's. I do great considering I only do this on weekends. I suffer from a bad attitude, and low quantity of designs and I still pull down nearly full time money on 20 hrs "work". If I could get my act together I'd be pullin allot more. :sport-smiley-026: So no offense taken. :) :ybeer:

Maybe I need a specific tip on what you mean, just not sure, I put the microphone shadow in, then looking at the reference, wasn't sure where to go after that. It seems I put a lot of shadow and texture in the face, but maybe not.
It is apparent to me that the flash has blown out a lot of texture, but I couldn't take the pic in daylight very easily. Anyway, thanks! It was fun to try, might have to try another!
