hey everyone, I'm alive but heavily medicated.
A few weekends ago (weekend of the 6/7) I went on a 3 day ride with 8 friends across Oregon to Hell's Canyon and back taking some of the most amazing roads.
Day 3 three of the ride we were taking it easy I was in the rear on this stretch went through a left hand corner and it tightened up at the end and had alot of gravel on it, tried to manage but the bike drifted out, couldn't keep it on the pavement. The bike left the road at about 40mph, I landed at the bottom of a ravine. Hit the ground hard, there was no tumbling or breaking of my fall, I hit with one big thump! couldn't breath for (seemed forever) If I wasn't wearing a full face helmet I would have shattered every bone in my face!
Anyway, Broke 3 ribs, two vertebrae, shattered my clavical. I have to be in a back brace and sling and can't work for 2 months, But i'm alive! And very greatfull to be! It could have been much worse.
Still haven't seen the bike yet, it's down at Icon waiting for the adjuster to go over it.
just thought I'd let my airbrush family know:wheelchair:

As a biker myself I know all too well about the risks.....been down on several occasions myself but never broke any bones thankfully......my brother and brother-n-law almost were killed when an old woman turned in front of them and they t-boned her car at about 50 mph....helmets saved their heads but they were both busted up pretty bad.....Best wishes on your recovery Jason....you'll be ridin again before ya know it.

Hey, Jason. As a fellow biker, although with very little time to travel enough other than commuting, I feel for you. Thank God for helmets, huh? Get better soon, get back to art, and when you're ready, "get on that bike and ride"

Hey man, Glad you pulled out in one piece. Hope you protected you ab hand along with the face.
Ribs will take some time to heal. Don't push yourself. I broke two ribs last summer and it took six months to finally heal because I kept pushing myself. Take it easy. Nothing sucks more than that nagging pain that just keeps hanging on.
Next time... Keep The Rubber Side Down :) Just my .02

Sad to heare that jeson but happy to hear that you still alive and kicking.....
I just finish totaly recovering from my bike exident but i was much luckier, i slide with my bike at more then 200 KMH, my luck was there where no traffic and nothing that i collided with so i just slide on the road for about 70 meter until i stoped
i alwayes where full protaction but in the fall i fell direct on my sholder and shatterd the clavicaula (sorry if theres a typo), beside that i had 2-3 little scrathces but thats it.
you got a recovery period ahead of you it is not nice but as you sad it could have been much much worst.
Try to relex and rest as much as you can now becouse we expact that when you will come back you will bomb us with new work
Regards

Glad to hear you are still with us. Sounds like a nasty one for sure.. Gravel scares the sh** out of me when riding. Have seen too many people go down from it being on the roads.
Hope you have a speedy recovery...

Hi Jason, glad you made from another rider here, nice to hear you wearing the skid lid, know I was glad of mine as my head bounced along a kerb, didn't have a ravine to worry about though. Take care and it easy, all the best for the healing.

Your prayers and thoughts are well appreciated, thank you for all your kind words!
starting move around more, still can't work, my shoulder is going to take a while to heal. The doc says it will be better off growing back together on it's own, he's says i'll only lose 1/4" of movement so surgery is not worth the risk just to get back a 1/4". My spine is healing straight, and i guess the ribs are healing. not much pain, they hooked me up with good pain meds.
my friends put on a benefit/fundraiser since i can't work for the next few months and i don't have disability insurance. It was very successful, turns out I have a whole lot more friends than I thought! Even my good friend Brooke at Iwata chipped in with a generous donation.
It was my right shoulder that got messed up and fortunately i'm left handed but my right hand is tied up in a sling, i'm realizing now how much i use my right hand while airbrushing.
thanks again

Just saw this post, hope you heal up fast. Living in the desert, sand and small gravel blow onto the corners here quite often so I know how fast things on the street change. Hope this doesn't change the fact that you ride. I commute daily and fun ride whenever time allows. Hope the bikes not too bad. Your shoulder will heal. Rehab it correctly and you should be ok. The rehab part will suck at first, but you'll appreciate the hard work later. Besides it may give you some inspiration.
I ride a Buell XB9R that's red. Hence Redxb. Rubber side down. Heal fast.

That is so awesome that people can help in times like these. It just goes to show you how much you are valued! I can't wait to see what you paint when you get back on your feet to paint!
Jason, any updates?.. How are you feeling? Hope your recovery is coming along.
