I'm not artistic enough to be able to DO tattoos, but I do have one so far.

Here is the tattoo I have. Guess you can't guess my heritage. LOL!

There is a story there. A bit long to go into it.

Dont know man... if you lookd at the black area it seems that it actuly tattod on skeen becouse you got skin texture, but at the rest of the tatto its looks more of a paint.
if it is a real tattoo then this is by far the best tattoo that i have seen, but you need to be mad to do something like that

Right I'll let the side down now lol........

Suppose you would call it an old Skool style tat, had it done 21 years ago an it is still in pretty good shape.

Opatience... Tell us The Story!!! (I love hearing the stories behind the tat)

Here's mine...

21340

Originally I had a snowdrop with someones name underneath signifying truth, honesty, innocence & purity. Over the top I've had a Kingfisher done, as it was a copy of the first english bird I ever tried to airbrush. The tattooist copied it from my painting! I think he did a neat job!

Nice story Minnie...I always like doing tattoos where the customer has a lot of input and direction and the subsequent meaning it has to them as opposed to doing flash off the wall.

Cool! Thanks for the reply! I just wanted a tattoo for 'me' - something that had nothing to do with anyone else.
I have a mate whose got all her kids names tattooed on her arm (six, so far - another due, yeah, she hasnt heard of television!!) But, like... is she really gonna Forget her kids names??

Along with this excellant thread (well done, skids!) I'd like to know WHY everyone has what they have!

Dizzy
09-25-2008, 11:49 AM
I got mine because I have always wanted one.....I chose the angel wings and My daughters name because she is my Angel. I wanted the wings to appear to be "hugging" or Protecting her name.....like I protect her!!

Opatience... Tell us The Story!!! (I love hearing the stories behind the tat)

I'm american indian (native american for the politically correct).
I wanted a bit of a tribute to my grandfather (his name is Beartracks).
The bear track (paw print) hangs from the dreamcatcher in honor of him.
The bear is my protecter/brother/watcher (depending on who you ask.)

The bear protects and watches.
The eagle feathers, one is a mature eagle feather and stands for wisdom, maturity and patience (something I lack).

The other feather is a juvenile eagle feather and stands for strength, energy and carefree spirit.

When I got the tattoo, my grandfather told me that I should have had 2 juvenile feathers, as youth should be twice as strong as adult.
I guess it was his way of finding some fault in it. (He always had to have some criticism.) LOL!
He later realized where the image was from just before he died.

I put off getting a tattoo until I was 40, because I couldn't get the design the way I wanted it. I knew what I wanted, just not how I wanted it put together.
I was going through some of my grandmother's things she had left me when she died and I found the drawing of what was to be my tattoo.
I modified it a little from what it was, to what it is now (the beartracks medallion and tassles), with help of the tattoo artist and my wife and it turned out the way I have it now.

So there you have it. Kind of boring. LOL!

Mine is easy, 21 years ago I met my wife, 6 months later I had the Tat done, it is a typical old style Tat, the swallow always has been a symbol of folk in the Merchant Navy. Heart an that, self explanatory, as to why, on the way home with our respective friends, she with hers and me with mine, both stated that the other was the person we would spend the rest our lives with, that was after spending around 4 hours in the others company, so there you have it, a lifetime commitment before anything else.

Those are WONDERFUL Stories! Ahh, Draggie - you make me feel all mushy inside! What a fabulous tribute to Love.
Opatience - that is just SO Neat! Not boring at all... It also shows respect for your culture and belief in your past... I Like that! No owl to see both sides? and why a juvenile eagle feather and not - say a Buffalo for strength? I'm curious!
Dizzy, Such clarity and vision... you'll always be her guardian angel, yourself!

minnie.. my tat is my own drawing I've been drawing roses since I was in high school umpteen years ago.... Always loved to paint, draw, carve, and even decorate cakes roses.. so when my daughter was learning to tat I told her I would get one in 1 year after she was doing tats.. so that was it I got a tat and thinking about another.

My grandmother used to say that the juvenile eagle feathers were to keep you young, vigorous, strong and full of energy (most things associated with youth), so it was something I thought about, especially after hitting the 40 mark. LOL!

The buffalo, has a different meaning for me and later, I am looking to have a white buffalo (representing my father), an eagle (representing my oldest son) and a deer/stag (representing my youngest son) in a group tattoo.
I may have them flanking the existing tattoo or have another entirely different tattoo done.

Very Cool Sharon. Thats got a lot of meaning.
Opatience, thanks for that! Sounds cool. I'd go for an entirely different tattoo, bu knowing how much thought you put into the first one, it will be good, whatever you do! Thanks for the heads up! I always find the native american indian stuff, so interesting, it just seems to make sense!

here's my first tattoo... and I did it my self. :D
The top star was done a few months back. plenty of blowouts and a very patchy fill.. the other two were done more recently and I'm very pleased with the lining on them and the fill (at least on the last one at the bottom) is pretty solid.

I'm told straight edges are about as hard as you can get but it's what I wanted.
I do want to incorporate three elements in to it.
Fire = to represent my love for motorbikes
Wind = for my interest in power kites/windsurfing/sailing
Water = for my love of surfing and generally being in the sea
I'm playing with a couple of designs and drawing them on to my leg then taking pictures.. hopefully I'll get something sorted :)
