Hi everyone,
Not sure if I posted this already. Anyways, I would really like to try useing Co2 tank when I cant take my comp. Now my question is, can I just call a beverage company to get one? or where should I call? I saw some on Ebay too and the regulator. On anther post they said to use a welders regulator. Now does that just hook right on? or do I need something special then hook it on? Man I am so lost and my hubby really doeant want me to try it. Can someone explain the pros and cons of useing it for me? or maybe send me a PM and I can give u my number to call me to explain it better. hey thanks everyone for listening...I am so lost and confused!!!!

Look for a place that does welding gasses...
They stock all sorts...and I was advised not to use Co2 (AD Cook), he uses compressed Nitrogen...it doesn't freeze up.

Lynne's got it go to a welding supply co. If you need a regulator I might have a spare kicking around. If you need it let me know i'll send it out to you. Just out of curiosity why compressed gas? Why not a silent compressor. I build'em and use them for everything, couldn't imagine working without one.:) Just my $.02

Not to hijack the thread, but how long does a co2 tank last?

You can get two twenty pound aluminum tanks and a regulator from the beverage company in San Diego (can't remember the name right now) for about 250 usd, including shipping. the regulator screws into the top of the tank and you will need an adjustable wrench to tighten it up. You'll also want to add a quick disconnect to the low pressure outlet side of the regulator to connect the gas to your airbrush. Got mine last fall so I could work while others are sleeping. I haven't had a problem with a tank freezing, but if you do, just put the tank into a five gallon bucket and pour water in the bucket until you cover most of the tank.
You may want to secure the tank to something solid with a chain. this will keep it from falling over and breaking off the regulator converting the tank into a very destructive rocket.
I will take some pics of my setup and post them later. Cost to fill my tanks is roughly 15 usd each at a local industrial gas company.
Hog
i get mine from the pepsi wholesale place. They supply alot of the bars. Gauges I get from online beer places.

Hey Clinton, please tell me more about your silent ones!!!! WOW. Now as for the gas...its cuz its silent!! LOL I read on a forum about useing the Co2 and just thought maybe it was the way to go.
I AB at a dance convention on Sunday and was chatting with a vendor, she was asking me if I was attending their huge conventon at 7 springs resorts. Well I wanted to until she told me last year the AB guys compressor was so freakin loud, she is requesting not to be anywhere near him...OMG I was thinking. Maybe he didnt have any place to put it. Maybe I wont have any place to put mine...lol so i was just trying to figure something out. something thats quiet!!! I really havent been doing this long enough to afford a silent one, unless u r pretty cheap...hint hint...LOL
All suggestion are very welcome...HELP!!!!
Now does the notrogen use the same regulator? And to all the women that use gases, how do u get the men at the place where u get tanks treat u like u know what u r talking about, instead of an azz? I called and a Co2 refill is 30.00 geezzzzzzzzz...just thought i would try it
hey thanks everyone...Tina

Yes ma'am...
As you may be aware, Nitrogen is something you breathe every day - roughly 79% of the air you're inhaling at this very second is Nitrogen. So nothing nasty there.
It's available at any gas supply company (again, seek welding companies)...where are you? I have a cylinder I'm no longer using, half filled. If logistically possible, we could do a deal (50 bucks?). it's about 3 1/2 feet tall.
Reg's they sell at the gas place cost about 99 bucks. I'd do a deal with Clinton, if you can, sounds like a better deal.
There are different size tanks available, and the one I have is about all I can handle, on my own. (it's heavy, and scares the crap out of me)...you'll want to rig up a cart that can't fall over...the last thing you want is this thing to crash (that's any compressed gas) as it will become an instant rocket....the potentially lethal kind.
Another source of compressed air are scuba tanks, they're smaller (standard 80's) and they're nothing more than compressed (and very dry) air. You'll need a cert card to fill em though.
And yes, they use the same regulator.
If I were you, with the expense of the tank, and getting it filled...and potential of running out of air in the middle of a heavy spraying day...Tina, I would go with a silent airbrush compressor. A little more expensive...and they make no more noise than a fridge kicking on.

Here are the pics I spoke of earlier. These tanks are aluminum and manageable by one person as far as weight. Tank nitrogen and tank co2 each require their own regulator and they are not the same. The second pic is the setup next to my work area. The yellow hose goes to my compressor or co2 tank and the braided blue hose goes to the airbrush. If you consume a full 20 pound tank og co2 in one days work, you have had a big day indeed.

I thought silent compressors were like 8 or 900.00 bucks!!! I really cant shake that all in one shot. MMMMMMMMaybe 500... LOL
WOW the pics are great!! I swear I do have the ability to learn...lol but this stuff is just not sinking in at all..LOL
Lynn I see u r in Mich I am in Pa but on the Ohio line. One of the big events I will be doing soon is in Detroit. Are u anywhere near there or Garden City where I will be staying. I have family up there and this venue of cheerleaders are doing their championship in a few major cities and one stop will be Pittsburgh Pa this weekend(I will be there!) and I was offered the Detroit one too, so I took it. But I thought if I rented a tank to use at home for a few weeks I could get used to useing it and get the knowledge of it (man I hope) so I can use it at the venues I do that are far, or are just to inclosed to use compressors.
Hello Clinton get me a price on one of those silent comp please...lol this whole thing may make me a MENTAL Patient!!! please keep posting if u r not too sick of me yet...LOL

If your going to go with the compressed gas you can have the reg for shipping. If you want to go with a silent compressor the ones Lynne posted up are good, mines the equal to the Great White Shark. That one can run 3 airbrushes for 8 hour days if you wanted it to. The hammerhead would also be a good choice for you. Now if your Husband is a handy guy and can weld or knows someone that can you could make one for about 1/3 the price of a Great White. Let me know either way I could get a "how to" made up for you if you'd like then all you really need to do is source the parts, fridge motor being the hardest but not too hard.:wink2:

The one I would suggest would be the Sil-Air 50-15, has a 1/2hp motor and a large 4gal tank. http://dixieart.com/More_Silentaire.html Should be able to keep up with what you want to do and it's the cheapest of the silent 1/2hp compressores. You want to stay in the 1/2hp range and the larger the tank volume you can get the better off you are. The only real difference between this compressor and the Great White is the placement of the tank, which makes for less moisture and oil in your air tank/lines. But for the $$ difference it's not that big of a deal to empty your moisture trap and tank a little more often. The thing about compressed gas is you have the $$ to get the tank and reg setup then you have to take it in to ge it filled more $$ (time is money). Once you buy a compressor it's free from there if you maintain it, change the oil every 150 hrs of use and it will last for a very long time. I have one here that came out of a school, it's one of the first Silent Air put out and it works great. Just my $.02.
