I need verification from someone..
AA base coat.. sprayed on.. I spilled something on it so decided to try washing the spill off.. Out comes the 71% alcohol and a damp rag and OFF CAME THE BASE COAT.. cut it just like good solvent.

funny thing, tried it on the regular AA paint and it had no effect..
interesting..

anyone confirm or??
Thanks

I would say it has everything to do with how old the basecoat was when this happened. 70 percent isopropryl alcohol? (hell if I know if I spelled this right) is made up in volume...the other 30 percent... is water.

So.

If the basecoat is less than 24 hours old...or otherwise not heat cured...it will of course lift when liquid is introduced, and wiped.

But I think it's the time factor/cure time that got ya.

Cured AA can be wiped with water and a touch of detergent, just dont rub to hard or allow it to soak. Alcohol will lift it everytime.

Gordon, I've used Bestine (rubber cement thinner) GINGERLY with a q-tip (cotton swab) before, going over an area that I may have touched when I shouldn't of.

I don't use AA like urethanes, expecting to wipe things down to keep the work clean that way. I wear gloves on the non airbrush hand, touch the work only with things that are protected, and wipe over a tack cloth on rare occasion when I think I have overspray, or lint.... you know how thicker coats of AA don't lay down so well, and are kind of rough.

Wiping over any acrylic (including AA) especially when shooting "dry" is potentially troublesome... if you have an area in question that may fit this bill, I'd go over the area before tampering in any way with the transparent (clear) AA, and CURE.

Can I add a funny? 3" away is a 'color painted' AA surface area.. the alcohol DID NOT bother it at all.
the base coat was put on 3-4 months back..
the color coat I did Sunday..
Weird

water, alcohol, reducer, just about everything took my basecoat off. had a drip on the helmet i'm working. scuffed the drip off, worked the blunder into my design. fwiw.
