Still in the learning curve-
so a little clarity would be helpful.
i would like to know the advantages and disadvantages to the various sizes and in your opinions, which is the most versatile.
.2mm
.3mm
.5mm
i realize that smaller means more detail, and larger means more paint. just thought this might help a newbie such as myself, and if i were going to buy just one size which and why. :smilingface201097jq

.3 is usually regarded as your work horse range, most 0.3 will produce fine lines, but it is all down to practice,.
As you have said the 0.2 will give better control on finer detail, again this is practice, putting an infinity in a hand that hasn't practiced the control isn't going to let you put eye lashes on a fly, a lot have smaller cup sizes as well, as there isn't usually the same volume of paint required.
Can't say for all makes, but I have trouble putting metallics through a 0.3, so am after a 0.5, as most of it will be for broader coverage work. So ideal for putting a greater amount of paint down quickly.
Hmmm. more of a preference thing i'd say...The smaller tip doesn't always mean more detail..To an extent yes, but more depends on paint and gun control i think.
A bigger tip comes in handy if you want to blast a color and have damn near full coverage (100% opacity) in one shot......Darw a black line it looks like a black line..LOL...You don't have to reduce as much cuz the bigger size handles the thicker paint.
With a smaller tip, you have to reduce much more..So that one shot line might look more grey..Takes a couple passes to make it black......That's how I like it, so i reduce the life out of my paints..LOL...But not everyone sprays the same.
Edit:: Andy beat me, lOl....Spiffy point with metalics, They hate all my Ab's..hahaa.

i am reading as much as i can to make an informed decision, alot to assimilate. just thought maybe this type of thread may help a newbie like me to make a more informed purchase. info, info, info, ahhhhhh! my brain.
#3 tip in Paasche is a .5 mm,, usually a good medium,,,
your finer tip (2/3 mm) are more detail,, finer paint set-ups !!!
Really depends on what brush your using !!!

Thanks Whit.
Paasche, Iwata, Badger....
Sounds like find what works for me and go for it.
I'm going to upgrade my brush.
Just curious, is there a list that says something to cross reference the different #'s to each different brand w/o constantly flipping back and forth?

Need to hunt, Dell maybe knows where it is, but he did a test card fairly recently with different brushes, as he was bored.
