:) Hello,I recently bought a paasche vl airbrush just to play around with. I am just experimenting but may eventually use it to spray acrylics on canvas. After hearing the Campbell Hausfeld 2 gallon compressors were good i went out to wal-mart and bought one. The one I bought is actually labeled a 209000 which there is very little info about. I wondered if it was the right one or had a weaker motor.

I was able to get it to work and even spray an acrylic mix somewhat. It is rather loud and takes a while to pressure the tank. I was curious about the 209000 number because most people talked about the 2048 or 2040 which was not available at the wal-mart here.

I called the Campbell Hausfeld company and the salesperson said that all the the 2 gallon models were the same power. But then he said that the cfm was .51 at 40psi and .39 at 90 psi .This is less than what the 2048 and 2040 are advertised at which really confused me.

I believe I can still return the 209000. Basicly i want something that is strong enough to spray acrylics, not too loud and not much more than 100 dollars. What do you think would be better? The 2048(stronger?) the 2040?(quieter?).

I also considered buying a 2hp 6 gallon husky(really a campell hausfeld) or porter cable model. These are probably loud but i could possibly run a long air hose from another room.

What compressor would you get and where would you buy it?

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian,

You aren't going to run into any problems with the cfm on any of the models you wrote about since you are using an airbrush. The cfm you are going to need is not anywhere neer of exceeding the max on your compressor. If you ever plan to get a High Volume Low Pressure paint gun for spraying very large areas like a car or a large wall, then you may look at the minimum cfm for the gun you get. But I am sure the compressor you have will last a good long while.

Good luck, Steve.

I've got a lil 2hp 5 gal CH for portable work,,,
been using it several years now,, works great !!!
Can even handle larger guns for intervals when
neccessary,, but airbrush is a snap !!!
I've made a cover from a box with 3 sides and
top and lined it with egg crate to muffle some
and it just sits over the motor/pump area !!!
Can sure tell the difference when it's off !!!
