I've not posted for a few days - had a crappy week :(

However, I've just perked up with my new project. I've been asked to paint two promotionial helmets for the video game release of Ghost Rider in the UK, to accompany Nick Cage's new film. I've airbrushed the skulls onto the helmets in white already and I'm just about to start the white base for the surrounding flames. Skulls can be a bit of a pain for me as I don't always achieve the feel I want, but these seem to be shaping up ok. I'll hopefully have these just about done by the weekend. If so, I'll get the finished pics up onto the Sunday Art & Kustom Show.

Cheers for now :)

They look like a really nice start. Are you going to go back in with some dark brown (other colour) to define it a bit more? When I did the Ghost Rider on the Mini hood that's what I used to detail it up. :) Would love to see some progression shots if you have the time.

Yep - I will do. I'll wing and see how it comes out of the airbrush but can you point me towards images of your Mini hood?

Thanks

Here you go, it's not the best job in the world but it was the first piece I had done in 2 years after dusting my brushes off.:) :wink2: There's more on my web page here. http://www.candcart.ca/airbrush_gallery.htm

Those are great skulls, GP. I love the looks of them already. And Clinton, your skull is sublime as usual.

I agree with a couple others, if skulls are a problem then you are in for smooth sailing.

Looks good to me.

Thanks for your replies everyone. Love your design Clinton - very nice textures. Mine's a bit more photo-realistic so the textures aren't as rich. Thinking about it, it's the rich, illustration type of work that I'd like to emulate more. This sort of photo type work is fairly straightforward as it more-or-less comes out of the airbrush in the right way and the masking does more work than the spraying, if you know what I mean.

More photos below - the white base of the flames first, then after I'd applied a couple of coats of clear, HoK Pagan Gold and Apple Red kandy to build up the colours. I'm using hand-held pieces card with various sizes of curve to build up the flame shapes amongst the airbrushing. This is the technique I've used for flames before which can take a while and some rework to get looking right. Still not sure about this one but I'm clearcoating shortly so that will help me work out what's left to do.

Thanks for now - Grant

Just remembered I had some Tangerine Kandy so I thought I'd see if I could warm up the flames with it and it's done the trick. It should look great with the clear on now. Just got to do the same with the other helmet and that's me done for the weekend :)

Looks good. Still don't understand why you say skulls are trouble for you. This looks real good.
