Storytime girls and boys....
It was fast approaching the witching hour on Christmas eve. The presents had been wrapped. The food prepared and the table laid for the following day. My son, Kallum had gone up to bed at around 10pm. We’d covered the ritual of leaving whiskey, cookies (Jaffa cakes this year) and carrots out for Santa, he’d written his letter etc etc. (Kallum’s now, 15 has no belief, but we go through the ritual anyway!)
There was nothing left to do, except enjoy the last warmth of the log fire in the grate. I was gently nursing a warm alcoholic drink, whilst watching one flame flicker to the left of the grate, when Terry knelt down beside me. He placed a small wrapped up gift in my hand and said “Merry Christmas…..” Well, the box was definitely bigger than a ring, and the weight felt more like a small paperweight. Intrigued I began to open the ribbon. (Definitely wrapped in store).. The paper folded back to reveal a small green cardboard box edged in gold. I opened the box and there sat another box…… I jokingly said, “hey, you got me a box….and another box” before removing the dark green and gold box from the matching one that held it. A tiny gold button winked at me, from the reflected light of the nearby Christmas tree. Terry had gone very quite and still. I opened the box, which revealed its contents and sat for a few seconds gazing at a single diamond solitaire ring. I lifted my head to look into his eyes, thoughts rushing around my head (like, Is this what I think it is? Is it a dress ring? Or maybe…?) he said “will you marry me” suddenly all thought were dashing away, faster than Santa’s sleigh. Suddenly Christmas seemed magical, as I replied “you bet your arse, I will” whilst we hugged at the same time.
There’s no rush to set a date. We’ve just decided to make a promise to each-other. I know in my mind, its early days but my heart reckons life’s too short.
The beautiful thing is he loves what I do, is artistic himself – loves reading the posts on the forum with me (and no – he doesn’t mind the teasing/flirting) and more importantly he wants to let me grow.
Thanks for the Congratulations folks!
