Hello,
I am prepping some cheap fiberglass canopies I found on eBay. Used a sanding sponge (~200 or 300 grit) and got the clear sanded mostly off, leaving a nice and smooth finish with some sanding marks visible. I shot a coat of DupliColor Adhesion Promoter, and it wrinkled in a few areas. Mainly the white and black sections.
I have used their AP several times in the past on my fiberglass canopies with nothing but success. The only difference is this canopy is a cheapy pre-painted one off of eBay. The canopy was new, and it seems to have had a two-stage paint job. The clear sanded off as translucent white dust, then once I got down to the color coats I could see the color in the sanding dust.
Is this an issue of trying to use a lacquer-based AP on something that may have been painted with enamel or who knows what? Any tips or ideas are much appreciated.
