Please forgive the very simple here, but I know just enough to get into a mess here. I took a class like (ok more years than some of you may be old) a looooong time ago and I suffer from a severe case of CRS. I have a Badger 150 running on a small 1.5 compressor, I can't remember the PSI. Done laughing? Don't kick my walker either damnit!

Welcome to the Forum...and it all depends on what kind of paint your spraying, and whether or not your airbrush is a bottom feeder, grav. fed...etc.
For thinner paints, 20-30 is more than sufficient.
For something like Createx or Un-thinned AutoAir...40 or so...

A lot depends on your paint !!!
Heavier (thicker) paint requires a lil more
pressure than a thinner mixture !!!
I usually spray at or around 40 psi,, but,,
I've known some that spray 50/60 psi
and some that work with 20/30 !!!
It's really your call and what paint you're
using as to where you find your comfort
zone,,, half dozen of one,,, 6 of the other,,,
Whatever works for you will end up being
your comfort zone,,, it's comfortable for you !!!
Good Luck on it,,, Happy Spraying !!!:partyalone:
Just jump in and play with your brush,,,
might start at 40 psi and play up or down
with your psi's till you hit something that works !!!

Good question, and as Whit said, hard to answer. The maestro, Mike Lavallee likes to spray his Urethanes at around 60 lbs, I like to spray em about 25-30 lbs.

Acrylics I usually spray around 50-55 lbs. So it really depends. Mess around with it, you'll find when it works best.

And welcome to the forum!

Welcome 2 da 4um, & it's not a silly question, the fact is Many of us experiment regularly to find the perfect combinations of paint, psi etc... and as Whit stated, there are many variables in determing the PSI you shoot at... I personally shoot @ 50-60 psi but then again I'm aprox. 20 ft away from my compressor at warmer temperatures so my suggestion is to experiment w/differ settings to get the optimum results that YOUR looking for... What works for me may not work for you vice versa... Aloha -HotAir-
