Hi again, anybody got any tips or tricks to stop rubbing through near the edges of things like mudguards?
After the last time I took the clear off the edge I re- cleared the mudguard and gave it a "bit extra" round the edges but I'm nervous of rubbing through again!
It seems to me that every article I've read just says "be careful" which isn't really a great help!
BTW is it nessecary to re-clear the whole thing if you do rub through?
Thanks,
Marty

Howdy Marty , Like You said its best to Apply an extra shot or 2 Towards any Edge Yer Concerned about , Some Just put a Piece of Masking tape over it When Machine Polishing to Stay away from The Edges or High Points , Then Polish By had , to Be on the safe side .
As Fars as I,m concerned unless You have the Experience to blend the Clear Then I Wouldn,t try Just Spotting it in to avoid any Blend lines . Personally I have Very seldom Used a buffer in the last 20 Years or so .
I Ussually put 4 Coats of Clear , Wetsand it with 500 grit , Wipe it down good , Then Reclear it with 2 more Coats both Using 10 to 20 % Reducer . Gota be carefull not to get any Sags . But Then Just Running a Polisher over it Or Even hand polishing it with out Sanding , I,ve got much better Results with the Finish . But Thats Just what Works for Me . Best of Luck. I,m sure others will jump in .

Hey oddball, the tape trick is a pretty good trick. Also another thing you need to remember when your buffing, always buff off the edge, not back on to it,
When wetsanding the edges, as always I dry the part frequently...You can see the diff from what's been sanded and not..Once it matches the rest, done..lol
When buffing, like fixxxer mentioned, make the rotation of the buffer go off the edge rather than into.
Most times like CB, I try to get the clear good enough to not have to touch..lol..Even if you get orange peel somewhere else, so long as the edges are good, (no dust or orangepeel), good to go, don't touch em..lol

I like the idea of "spray n go" but I still got my Learner plates up! :(
I bought a polisher from Halfords but I'm scared to use it! (I know, what a whimp! lol), I'll have a go with it one day, but for now I'll stick to hand-draulic!

Sand diagonally on edges with little pressure instead of vertically against the line or horizontally with it.

That sounds like a good idea, :) I'll have to wait for a month to try it as I'm now back to work which is a month at sea! :(
