View Full Version : Any decent mini HVLP guns other than the one from Harbor Freight?

I have been using the #46719 Mini HVLP gun from Harbor Freight for a while. It's a nice enough gun, but I hate having to mail order for parts, and more importantly having to call in the order. For some reason they won't sell parts through their web site! :(

I am just using the mini gun to spray some high solids 2k clear from Virtus. I paint fiberglass canopies for remote controlled helicopters, so I only need a small gun. I would prefer HVLP to keep things more efficient.

The only problem is I can't afford one of the high-end guns. Are there any decent mini HVLP guns for under $100 that have parts support. Parts support through a reputable web site. I hate phoning in orders ... my free time is usually after hours.

You've got my curiousity up, what parts are you having to order so often that make what you have a problem?
How much have you spent on parts, and how much did the original gun cost you?

It's not so much that I need a lot of parts, but I hate having to phone in orders. I don't have time to call in an order during the day, and they are closed at night.

All I really need is a packing nut and the o-rings / gaskets. It shouldn't cost more than $10 to get it all shipped to me, but this BS with having to call in the order for parts is annoying. It 2009 ... why can't the parts be listed and offered for purchase online?

Besides, now that I kinda know how to use a spray gun, I wouldn't mind having a nicer model.

They may not have lots of spare parts, they may have had to break down an existing brush or gun to get the needed parts. Without a large inventory of parts available to them, they may not want to encourage people to try to get spares from them. That's always one of the trade offs with getting cheapo airbrushes, spray guns, or tools, what you gain in initial savings you give up in quality, parts, and service. While the big name brushes may not be all that much better in quality, part of their larger price tags is the parts, and service availability.
As often as not, the manufacturer's for places like Harbor Freight change on a daily or weekly basis, and even those companies outsource their parts and manufacturing to whoever will get them something that works (kind of) for the lowest amount of money, so those change daily too. You can buy an airbrush from them on any given day, and chances are that you will find two or three different brushes sitting in their stock that are different from each other even though theyhave the same part number and similar packaging.
