Right now, I'm nearly ready to chuck the kitchen PC outta the window! I'm working on my laptop which I've just set up for wireless, etc. (Going posh here, in the sticks!!) However, the Kitchen PC will not allow me to set it up..SO, I'm going to chuck it out and try with a different PC. Only thing is, I'd like to SAVE all my messages in Outlook express.... anyone know how to that?
It wont let me export them to my USB memory stick (which is exactly what I want to do)....
and no the machine in the kitchen is a pile of p**h! The CD/Rom thingy doesn't work and it wont give me an IP address despite doing it the hard way with command prompt etc... so it's NOT to be saved!
I cant even send the messages onto myself, as it wont connect at all, now.
I think there's someway via a profile, but I cant remember how to do it. ANYBODY, Any Ideas?
Humbly Grateful for sensible responses!!
Hugs, MM x

First thing I'd do is find out why you can't do your wireless on your exisiting PC.
For saving that stuff, can you just email those messages to a different email address?
Maybe set up some new address in yahoo or something so that you could dump everything there 'til you get either this computer working or you get your new one, then you could either download them from Yahoo, or email them back to your outlook account. I dumped my outlook account years ago because it was such pain in the butt. Too much work for not enough return.

Hi Honey, Thanks for coming back to me. Right I'll try an answer sensibly,
1. Cant go wireless on kitchen pc because the ipconfigureration has just disappeared! Gone, kapput, etc.
2. I would e.mail them to another address, if the old machine would at least connect online - which it wont.

Okay there is a way but I'll need to try and hunt for it that you can back up the existing emails onto a usb then transfer them over.
The other way is by another usb, got one from flea bay 16 gig, made by transcend uses this jascw programme as an organiser, allows you to store all your emails and favourites onto the stick, will go and hunt for the back up procedure.
edit I'm back http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA011030811033.aspx
need to export the files as .pst
hope it helps

Only lets me export to Outlook, and does not give me any options (am I being dumb?)
Wont let me export to pst files or anything else.
Once exported to Outlook, how do I find them again? Windows? Search?
THANK YOU for the help so far, think I'm getting a tiny bit hacked off with all this..... May just throw it out the window and be damned! Maybe I should blow it up instead? Good fire reference images, then!!

:multistars: WOOHOO!!! :multistars: I did it!!:multistars:
Tried it this way:-
tep1
Connect a USB drive to your computer and create a folder called "Outlook Backup."
Step2
Start Outlook Express and click "Tools" and "Options." On the "Maintenance" tab, select "Store Folder." Copy the location of the file by highlighting the text and hitting "Control" plus "C."
Step3
Click on "Start" then "Run" and paste the location into the dialog box. Press "OK" and a file explorer window will open. Click "Edit" and then "Select All." Click "Edit" again and select "Copy."
Step4
Navigate to the explorer window for your USB drive and double-click the "Outlook Backup" folder. Place the cursor in the middle of the window and right click. Select "Paste" and the contents of your Outlook folder will appear.
Step5
Open Windows Backup Utility under "Accessories" and "System Tools." Select "Backup Wizard" in the options box and click "Next." Click "Backup Selected Files" and "Next."
Step6
Browse to the folder that contains your Outlook Express files on your hard drive and check the box beside it and click "Next." Browse to the "Outlook Backup" folder on your USB drive and select "Open" and "Save."
Step7
Hit "Next" and "Finish" so that your files will automatically update in the future. In the event of a hardware failure, you have a backup copy on your hard drive.
NOW, I CAN GO BLOW THIS THING UP!!!!! :rogpen: :violent-smiley-011:

I still wouldn't destroy the PC, even though I'm a Mac person, I'd try to find out if it is the wireless card or something reasonable that can be fixed or replaced if it's just the one thing that's not functioning. Worse comes to worse, make it a work machine for your home finances and billing, with it off the internet, it helps you avoid the potential for hackers getting into your private info.
I just hate to see potential tools wasted or destroyed needlessly.
