Would it be helpful if there was a forum for newbie questions? If those like me asked there questions in a newbie question forum it might make it easier to point those who follow. That way the more experienced would only need to answer our "stupid questions" once. Then when a newbie comes on board it would give them one place to read up for beginner answers. I have seen this used successfully onother boards I frequent.

I don't care what anyone else says...
this is your newbie forum.

You can ask anything you want here...
take the ribbing and jokes like a man.
(if Denise can do it, so can you!)

I'm a so called "pro"
(even if I don't agree)
and I want to interract with "pros", "newbies", "aliens", I dont care.
We need to make "newbies" feel like they are part of the group and can be involved anywhere.

But I hear what you are saying about the beginner area.
Don't we already have a beginner thread area??
What if we were more careful about the thread titles?
so newbies could look for topics easier?

Hi Tim i agree with you but the only ''STUPID QUESTIONS''are the ones we dont ask
:wink2:

I had a question I did'nt ask once,,, now,,,
all these years later,,, I still don't know !!!
I read these newbie questions in hopes that
my question will one day be answered ,,,,,
(without my having to ask it) :wink2:

I think something may be forgotten here. This kind of sets up the "Go away kid ya bother me" look for you answers there I don't have time. I admit, when I ask a question I want an answer from someone interested in giving me an answer. Not always a group there it is.

If you re-lie on there is the post and the ideas are there how do new ideas come in? Folks are not going to go back and find the post just to post a new idea.

Just my thoughts

Instead of making a forum for newbs to ask questions , why not just make a closed section for NEWB FAQ. This way we all can take the common Newb questions and just post info to help answer some of them. Also we could use this area to take answers given in response to the newb questions in the regular forum. I hope that came out right. Of course it would have to be a read only section but it may help. kind of like the how to kind of stuff.

Clem,,,
There is never (believe it or not) a "Go away kid" attitude !!!
More than likely we've all had simular questions at some time
and even "Seasoned Pros" learn a lil tidbit from time to time
that they were unaware of,,, I know I have,,, so in that spirit
of interchange,,, ask away,,, there's room for us all to grow !!!

The reason I had mentioned it, I was on another forum for a short time also. An old well established forum. When a couple questions were ask most of the responses were "use the search" from a dozen different people with no other answers. Hard to think you are a part of something that tells you to go over there for the answer. I haven't been to that forum for a while.

Don't misunderstand, I have had good responses form this forum and I just don't want that to change. Maybe my thinking is wrong but when your statement says best community the idea lends to communication not somewhat pat answers.

The only "PAT" answer is,,, Practice,,, Practice !!!
Everything else relates to "What to Practice on" ,,,
and "How to Practice Doing it" !!!
(course this still does'nt answer my question)
Denise,,, in this time of store bought teeth,,,:)
I find there are more than one way to hold your
mouth,,, so if you could elaborate on that a little !!!

...aren't we just assuming that "newbs" are too stupid to post their question in the correct area.

Is that fair?

For example, if you have a question regarding Textile airbrushing, we have a section for that. I think even a "newb" knows what his question is about and can look for the right area. Even if it gets posted someplace else, we will still respond.

I agree with the idea that, Newbs can become isolated in their own little area. We don't want that. I think we have all made it clear that this is an open forum regardless of experience.

I see the Newbie area Denise has just thrown in.

Give it a try...see what happens there.

But personally I would like to see "newbs" join the rest of us and not "lurk" in the shadows!!

I wasn't suggesting that newbies be restricted to just a newb section but more as a collecting point for the repeat questions. This hwhole fourm is great about answering questions and I have learned a lot in a short time. My thought was that if there was an area it would make it easier to search the answers. May work may not. Time will tell

Tim

AirDave
10-22-2006, 02:41 PM
yeah maybe....

(no, I didn't think you were suggesting any restriction)

Do we have that search feature here?
Where you can search the threads and posts for topics or keywords??
I think we do

Clem

Ok well what I was getting at is that it might be easier for NEWBS to have a :"START HERE" sign put up for them. Nothing to exclude them from anything. However, if a READ ONLY file was set up, with a maintained list of the FAQ of NEWBS to AB this might help them out,

Examples, when I first started posting I was asking all the same questions that the last guy asked. What Air Brush should I get, and this is what I got in responce. Q#1 what do you want to AB?

Lets say I said T shirts, ok now the post goes on , waiting for a responce, and I am told that there are many good AB out there and it is all up to what I want to do with it and how much I want to spend. Not to mention how often I plan to use it and what kind of paint I plan to use,

What do ya know, New question leading in another direction,
Q. Well how do I know what kind of paint to use?

A. That all depends on the surfaces you want to paint on, is it for indoor or out door. etc.. Every one had great information and things to concider that they threw back at me to use to make my choices. I feel if we add some of this insight to a place that will not have to be searched out it might help everyone along.

More to follow.........

Just a list of AB terms. Nothing fancy,

Maybe more like the AB encyclopedia. what the word means and examples to show or a set of links. What this tool is used for , what is back flushing, what is a dagger stroke, I know some of this has already been posted, but when you are new , most of us had to be told where to find the info and how to get it.

How many News have actually used that area? It doesn't have to be designated at a NEWB area just designed specifically with the NEWB in mind. I told ya I am not good with spelling it out, but I hope you see where I am going, Ya have to point the horse to water, then it will drink. lol

Idea here!!!!! Place a copy of my stencil pusher How-to's in there. Place a copy of Dave's practice stuff in there....catching my drift???:wink2: . The original doesn't have to be deleted from the current threads, but if it is pertinent to newbie stuff, even though it may give some of ya Pro's an insight here and there, it would be very valuable to have all the posts lumped in one area. That way all the info is there right in front of ya. No need to use the search function ( I think Dave didn't even know about the search function!!!!!heeheheehe)..no need to browse through all the different areas....The eye's are drawn right to it and the info is stored right there. What do you think???? Don't use it as a "Hey!!!!, I am a newb, here's my question??, type of thing. Use it as a repository for helpful info!!!! Just my 2 cent's!!

Yes a repository!!!! DUH NIECE???? did I get the spelling right or was that supposed to be a "suppository"????:wink2: :wink2: :wink2:

Someone asks what AB do I buy?

We all answer with all of this all of the time:

We tell them what questions to ask them selves. Then we offer them resources to apply their answers to. Why not put the thought process up for them to see. Maybe the answers are not what they need but the insight to assist them in finding them. After that is where we come in on the rest of the forum to polish up what they have discovered.

I know not everyone has the time to do write ups. me I could not do one if you held a gun to my head. I think in a different way than I write. Even if a specific area is not set aside for these kind of post , I feel that is the direction we should take our assistance. However, eliminating the need to search out the basic information could really speed up the whole process.

You have my blessing to start at post #1 in CP&A and go through all the posts on the old forums and glean. Anyone that is a 100 is expected to be gleaners now along with "How To" makers and greeters...

Newbies especially and they can go fill up the Newbie Forum with what y'all want. :spiderscare:

Okay...I'm back!
Now everyone shut up for a minute!!

Steve, Denise and I are gonna put aside our differences (LOL)
and gang up on you all!!

You wanna post something?
theres a million places to post....go ahead and do it!
Wanna start a newbie thread?...just do it!!

No matter how many topics, or areas that are created,
there will always be someone who gets lost or doesn't know where to start.

We have a good selection of areas to start in.
We have a search feature to look for info.
We assume that everyone is smart and with a little effort can find stuff.
Everything is clearly marked so far, so start looking and posting.
We seem to waste more time and effort arguing, suggesting things and whining.
(That includes me!)

Now, go...get started...hurry up!!

Denise?...where do I post a How To article for newbies??

I probably shouldn't chime in, but I fail to see the need for a "newbie" section. It sends the wrong message to people unsure of a certain topic or painting style, and there is resources galore all over this site. If I were coming here for the first time, I would just cruise around, look and read (as I do anyway), the answers are already there. So are the topics.......just my $ .02

PonderThis

that seems to be the thoughts of everyone , there actually has been allot of compromise though out the post . was more of the idea and it's possible application, not exactly a NEWB forum after some discussion. Many good points made all around.
