Hi again Seadog

Just a quick note about your airbrush. I was talking to the people at www.airbrushes.com (http://www.airbrushes.com)whilst ordering some spares for my Iwatas and they told me that there are a lot of counterfeit Iwatas originating from the Far East at the moment. I'm assuming you got yours from Ebay which is being flooded by them at the moment and forcing all the UK sellers out of the market.

If it is a copy you may have trouble when you need to get replacement needles/nozzles as there's a good chance they won't fit. Obviously this may not be the case for you but I thought you'd appreciate the warning. It could also have been airbrushes.com spreading false rumours to get some of their sales back - maybe someone else has information about this.

The only problem is you'd need to buy replacement nozzles/needles etc. in the first place to see if they'll fit or not which could be quite pricey, especially if they don't fit and you end up ultimately having to replace your airbrush as well. Sorry to be the bearer of potentially bad news - fingers crossed 'n' all that.

Any joy on the compressor front by the way?

All the best

Grant

on airbrushes.com they say

Beware of Imitations! Make sure your airbrush has Iwata engraved on the side. Otherwise it is not a genuine Iwata and will not have been manufactured to the same standard of high precision engineering or quality of parts and materials. Iwata do not make unbranded or re-branded versions of Iwata airbrushes for anyone else.

so thanks for the heads up, but i'm fairly sure mine is ok, it has all the right markings and you can tell by the way it feels it's a quality item. the seller i got it from has 100% pos feedback, so i guessed they'd be ok.. plus it wasn't really really cheap. worked out at £70, which is about the same as they are in America, if not a fraction more (£70 = $137).
i already have cheap knock off that i got for £20 off ebay. and it's amazing how much better quality this is. it sprayed for hours and not a single clog or blow out. :)

as for the compressor, i'm just using a little single piston one, with an extra inline moisture trap as well as the one on it. you notice a but of a pulse some times when trying really fine suff, but in general it's ok and will see my through the next few months while i'm finding my feet.

talking about the engraving on the side, does anyone know what the last 2 letters mean after the word "Japan". i've seen a few different ones.

There are different ones. Thats how when you call Iwata's tech up and they can tell when the brush was made. And what plant it came from.

That also applies to repairs and parts too! Dave Monnig appears to be VERY knowledgeable! I like Adam Rice too, he is a crack up!

Those are a form of serial #s from what I was told. I had one of my Iwatas stolen, and I had to use those letters to help fill out a report for identification for Interpole Police.

i got my hpb highline for £50 as new from a guy who paid £95 for it new ,in the Uk its retailing at around £175.00 due to iwata price fixeing policy
my one is without a daubt an original iwata product
as for fakes yes they may exist but a lot of grey importers have excelent feedback and im sure fakes would be spotted and negatives left on thier feedback .i have yet to see that even from sellers in china

iwata protect UK distributors by refuseing to honour warrenties on items not purchased in the UK so if you import you have to send the brush back to the country it came from

if iwata played fair the price of UK brushes would drop and the SO CALLED fakes would be priced out
never mind fakes which may or may not exist my question is this why is a micron £300 in the UK but less than £200 in the states ???and even less from the far east

back to fakes has anyone ever seen one or been shown one ?? exactly where are they and if iwata know of ebay sellers then ebay would without question suspend those sellers

i have a feeling this is just scare mongering designed to frighten people as what i dont see is any evidence of these mysterious fakes

call me synical LOL

just another little warning but about Richpen spares that are being sold by so called reputable US dealer or rather X dealers as richpen will no longer let them sell thier airbrushes

the thread i read told of how chinese nozzles and needles where being passed off as rich pen originals ,these where not packaged in thier original rich pen packaging but in little plastic bags with richpen written on them and a few folk complained about the poor fit and bad quality

if i can refind the thread i will post a link

I can take a wild guess at who that dealer might be. I'm guessing it's the same one who had the same problem with Grex and Iwata. That moron is going to run out of airbrushes to sell. I'm guessing that means no more Peak, either, since those were supposedly made by Richpen for Bearair.
Is it bad karma to enjoy seeing someone elses bad karma catch up to them?
