Hello everybody!

My name is Stephen. I am a sculptor of Human figurative and anatomical sculpture. I expect airbrushing to give me greater dexterity in accomplishing a few things in my work. The last day or two after researching airbrushing - I have had some color illustrations of some sculpture that have been vague to date swirling together in my mind. I think ABing will help me to work our the curves and motion of pieces for more quickly than plain old charcoal. A more fluid process you might say.

I jumped right into the Iwata section yesterday and I must say some artist were very quick to offer advice to a fella that admittedly won't get his first airbrush until late next week at the soonest. (Ordering from Dixie-Art this Friday.)

Not only were they knowlegable and friendly but stretched their own experience to help me with an unusual application.

As the months pass I hope I will have a few things I can contribute, perhaps some unusual materials or techniques that might come handy to airbrushers as they are to sculptors.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

For now everything in process is part of either an invention or a sculpture for mass production that I can not show until they are in production. A couple figurative pieces might get pushed up if my health issues worsen, otherwise I have to concentrate on a very complex human anatomical I am working on. Wish I could be more specific, but I can not for business reasons just yet.

I should also say that I am a better insulator or Junk man than a sculptor as I did those things longer. Poor Boy's Hauling was my last licensed business.

I have a multimedia illustration in mind that will require airbrushing that pulls in sculpting as subject matter. Should make a great practice piece, lots of fades and curved lines. Humorous too.

It sounds as if you already can see in 3 dimensions, so after learning to shoot, I can only imagine what you will produce:speechless-smiley-0

Again thank you each for your warm welcome.

Airarts,
Working in 2D is just as impressive to the sculptor as working in 3D is to the painter. Both seem unfathomable in their particular skill set both in the physical manipulation of content and tools as well as media knowledge. But like all things complicated, they seem simple once we master them.

Denise,
I have already made use of the links you have submitted to the MSDS section. I must admit that is an area where I might be able to contribute a bit later on myself after I prove out the usability of some of the odd ball media I use for color and fillers in my castings. I am glad you are enjoying my post, I do try to entertain. But alas the nerd in my shines through all too often and I can read like a software manual....

I have been peeking into the profiles and homepages of many of you. The diversity of talent and skill exhibited by all of you is amazing. Most sculptors do not make a living with their sculpting. I find it incredibly inspiring to witness the high percentage of airbrush artist that do carve out a living with their craft, whether this be fine arts, t-shirts, murals or motorcycles. Operating small businesses is although a highly satisfying experience, it also require a heck of a lot of guts and hard work.
