I was doing a little practice (dots, lines, daggers, etc.) this afternoon and evening. As time went along I noticed that my airbrush was not performing the way it was earlier. I finally stopped spraying and took a good look at the airbrush. Nothing seemed to be wrong on the outside. Then I popped the color cup cap and knew immediately what the problem was: bubbles!
Having been reading (some call it lurking) posts on this and other forums, the
problem usually was an air leak. After running some cleaner through the brush
I noticed bubbles escaping from behind both the regulator and head assemblies. After taking these off; I put wax on both assembly threads. Put the brush back together and shot a few dots, lines and stuff.

Without these forums I would have been scratching my head and other parts trying to figure out what was wrong. This is the real value behind these forums and I thank all of those members who contribute advice and problem solutions. They do much more then perhaps they know.

Devil, you'll get "bubbles" in a situation where you have either excessive tip dry and/or a lot of built up paint inside the nozzle - either will cause air to back up and bubble up your paint....sometime enough to breach the other o-ring towards the rear of your brush (resulting in paint in and around the trigger assy).
I keep the cap off unless I'm working with a lot of paint in the cup... and listen for it... you can hear it (I must have bat hearing)...as well as the whistling of tip dry.

Just something else to watch out for...

Colourshift,
Thanks for the advice. It will be a bit longer before I have enough experience to really "listen" to an airbrush. Also the old ears could be getting a wee bit deef.

AirDevil, with regard to the helpful advice, this place is the oracle. I have learned so much here, it all becomes a part of one's experience and knowledge. Glad to see someone make that statement, its quite true.

I have thought this is a good spot for a while. Like you say, a lot of information can be found here. Just remember that the information is here because of questions asked so don't be bashful about asking. (I have a lot more to learn myself)

Thanks

Clem

I've found this Board to be invaluable. We get to interact with others who have the same interest, share tips, funny stories, share mistakes (I'm good at those)... short of taking a workshop somewhere (sometimes more than we can afford)...where else could you do this, besides a Forum?
I've made my home here.
