I should keep a thread for nothing but posters, since that's what I play on most.

Anyways~ I SHOULD be cleaning house for company, but I hate housework, will make kid scrub tomorrow~
Instead, I did a bit of samples and then while the paint was out, added a few more colors and did thisun~

that's supposed to be aqua, not robbin egg, old camera~

oh and a lil tip, when your frustrated with an element, I've heard it ok to combine different brushes, hey, it looks the same when done right? So I took a chopped 00green and practiced straight lines before doing hubby's tank and doing the wires too.
Practice practice :D

I'm so enjoying to see you experimenting with your red wrapper stripes....I see a very pertinent style you are building here Carlene, gives my gnomie mind some visual wanderings....
The red stripe wraps are so delicate and i'd reckon so hard to apply the wrap behind parts where your brush must touch first....those could actually go much bolder depending on the colours of your reed stripes, which I see you exploring the colours and contrasts between.....
Very sweet panel striping images Carlene....

Your bottom endings of the red stripes in the second panel gives me visions similar to my red hot chili peppers hanging off plants in my homefront abstract garden....
Have you considered designs oriented toward organic images? Might be applicable toward some other sale-able items not related to custom automotive or bike stripe arts....?

thank you :)

Did you come up with this one? I am unsure if there are designs you kinda copy or come up with.. I am sure both!

I tend to be too much of a perfectionist. So I've looked at alot of peoples scrolls. And getting the loops to be balanced, I draw them, just lightly in pencil til I get a set I like, then darken it, fold it over, copy to other side, then copy thru scanner to some card stock I get at fred's (like a dolar store) then with a rug needle I punch the lines. Pounce it on whatever thn just follow the dots. I can't follow them perfectly but it helps train a design in my hand. I notice some have a certain design and it only varies slightly. And it's basically the same on all corners of bikes, cars, whatever. By the time I do all the feathers freehand filled, they look different.

I'm hoping after awhile I will have 'leaned a pattern and won't need a pouncing. But from what I've read all over, it's no different than predrawing the design on the surface first. To me, this is much easier. I can shrink, stretch and twist the designs in my puter too and are different yet the same.

I did find a site that has 1000's of designs, stickers and decals, but after awhile, they start looking the same. I found myself altering any lines I printed .
Just trying to find my signature. Oh and since I love dragons, I think of the wire tips more like lil serpents but I can see the chilli peppers, in green would look like a vine tip, especially like a morning glory or a bean vine, they always have a big flare .
Thought about tole painting, but I get too detailed, the realist in me takes over. I have to stop myself from getting carried away on these with dots and shading.

Jeff, I really wish I had found this art a LONG time ago, like back in my teens? When Dad's body shop was running full swing. Young, and foolish, and blind :/ better late than never huh? I'm one of those that has way too many hobbies, this one has just lasted the longest and been the most constant. lol!
Can't wait to see what you start posting up!

couple more from this afternoon. Will be re-arranging the living room so it might be awhile til I get back to this.

I have this ,,,, thing,,, about green, spring time bright green is ok, but this dull, I just go blah when using it. figured mixing blue and green 50/50 with a bit of white might be different, nope lol! But over all it kinda changed with the yellow lines (used a cut mack and they aren't consistent) , a lil bit wreath like.
Something for the style stash lol!

This needed more body, too thin, will try it again though.

I picked up a slightly scratch helmet from my (junk picker )neighbor, will start doodling on it, take pics, then wipe it off. Just so I can get practice of doing such a rounded object.

And my computer box is small and black, but is hidden so is rarely seen lol! It might get tagged after I move things around in the next few days though, never know~ ;)

I might hit the computer box, some time. Might have to wait for one of those stormy days when I have it unplugged, it's on from the time I get up til I go to bed lol!

i'm hoping to keep changing these up a bit Mob. Never ending ideas!

I'm almost done in my art room, hope to get back in the fumes maybe Tuesday~

well, back in my art room now. And did my first pc.
And I'll have to do something with the lighting. That center piece aint gonna work. Working at the easel is ok, but working on the desk itself? I've got a glare. The window provides light but \I like it a bit brighter.
here's what it is at working angle.
My eyes were also giving me a fit, so I couldn't keep consistency going.
Like learning all over again lol!

Still working on getting the lighting straightened out in my room. But redid the above design and lil finer lines on the feathers this time.

Also took a small liner brush, some craft set from wally world, and did some doodling, nice thing about have glass on your table, good for cutting and now when ever I want to test out something, just paint on the table :D Didn't take a pic, but trying to see how small I can get with some scrolls. Got them down to a few inches, but still pretty thick, will keep at it though. Just something new to try :)
I have a few vdubs models I got on clearance that I'd like to dress up for Christmas. Plus all these globes I picked up last year.

I'm still doodling posters, nothing great . I also was determined to get something like a chain design figured out, so with several sheets of freezer paper I went swirling, finally got something that looked appealing~
here's one of the results. Not done with the others yet :)

someone in pinhead said it looked musical, maybe it's influence from the guitar lol!
Will add more posters later ~

thanks Annette! Once I got this bobbo and the paint working right, I'm addicted to them swirly wires :D
Just practicing while waiting on a new brush ;) then I get to relearn!
A friend is sending me a bunch of small plexi panels a noher friend's job considers scrap! So I hope they get here soon so I can do designs on something other than poster board!

Back to my room now, more designs drying waiting for the next colors :D

Nice, nice stuff Carlene. how much time do you have in an average poster like that?

purplemyth
10-06-2009, 12:19 PM
I did the center lines last week, few minutes, the rest less than an hour, includes drawing the cross first (I have templates for different sizes ) freehanded rest.

Plexi will take a bit longer, to let each color tack first so they won't smear together.

the last one today, kid home in 20. Just added white and the red today, rest was last week. is ok, not one of my best, I was just goofing off by the time I got to this one.
My eyes went bonkers doing that wire! LOL! Camera doesn't show fire red on green too well.
One plexi started Maroon & white, so far :D time to start another one.
If ya don't see me tomorrow, I'll be back friday~ :wavey:

I really like this design. I've been out of it a while, but used to do some striping too, but this is really good. Thanks for sharing, it's inspiring. Wolf
