:sleepcat: Yeah, this is what I do. hehehe I usually get depressed late at night, that's how I know it's time to go to sleep, although I usually don't anyway. Otherwise I would just go for a long, long walk in the dark, that's always nice, or read some Edgar Poe.

I find if I am depressed I either go into a creative frenzy or a creative black hole, of late work pressure has driven me into the hole.(I'm in copy mode instead of creative)

I'd like to know, when you guys go down and lose the creativity is it hard to get back in the groove? or what do you do to get back in the groove?

When I,m in the creative groove I fly, but if I drop out it can take months to get it back.

it is hard to stay in that creative mind set all the time, but as one who feeds my family on fulltime artwork, i can't lose a day if i don't feel in the mood, so what works for me when i'm dry is getting out on the internet and finding some great airbrush work or even tattoo work, i find myself reverse engineering each piece in my head and that gets me back on track,

my earlier post is what i do when i'm frustrated with whatever

I'm with Jason, grab a couple boxes of ammo and a couple weapons and head for the hills. Good therapy.

Yeah Michael you can say that! You're married!

It always helped in a down dry spell to be able to get around other artistic people. Creativity feeds off creativity. Artists are voracious feeders. The creative input helps.
No matter what I feel if anyone steps up to the easel I also have to be right there and when they go... I stay because the spell ends.

You are brilliant,:party-smiley-042: you just made me realise why I am so damn misserable of late. I have always been around art, artist, craft. I,m living in a damn vacum here.

Creative sorts are everywhere, some may not know it...some may not have a physical medium they participate in...but they're there. I have friends that don't do anything creative at all, yet when I'm with them, ideas spark to life...usually with snorts and giggles. I've learned a long time ago to stay away from the negative ones, & the ones that are suppressive (you can't, you shouldn't, why don't you....) I am perfectly capable of becoming morose all on my own, with out outside assistance... why on earth would I have people around that perpetuate it. They tend to be like a black hole, sucking in any form of joy and or life into it's void.
Er.... but I digress.
Oh and music is a huge influence. I tend to be very selective when I'm down, as far as what I'm listening to. I allow myself to wallow briefly, then it's "stop whining, and get on with it"....and listen to something light, and cheerful, even though I may not feel that way at the moment.
Lack of creativity? I clean my studio area, put things away...then go through 'brainstorm files'...things I've done thumbnails of while waiting for planes, sitting in bars, etc...something usually sparks off that.

As for negative people, I get VERY rude and crude, as in get the.........away from me.

But sometimes we are living in an artistic and even nurturing vacuum. Or were the population can be counted on two hands. Luckily we do have the internet. I also find watching a LOT of films helps to keep the juice and moods in the living spectrum.

As for depression, I have manic-depression so I take, a mood stabilizer, an anti-psychotic, two anti-depressants, two blood pressure pills etc every day. When I am not drooling I am chugging Diet Coke.

When I need a nice little boost, I like to play Halo or Silent Hill. Enjoying a coffee and a cigarette usually hits the spot too.

I usually work, on everything and anything, keep busy, then, like Denise, sleep. I usually dream about art and creativity, so I can usually dream up some ideas, even easier if I'm really tired...

Right now, 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, will continue til March 17, St. Paddy's day. I wil be too tired to be depressed, lol...

wow when im in bed tryin goto sleep its hard for me to think about art. lol i m thinkin about other things but that, things a single person would think about lolol ummm i find i do try to relax cause all during the day my mind is constantly on being creative, art, colors, taking things and trying something new with.. or what i should be doing..
but im like jason n clem, i do grab a couple guns head to the pond and watch for turtles or snakes for target shooting.. shot a 3 inch slug in the pond thought dynamite hit the pond.. water shot up halfway up to the high line.. i was like oh was that kewl or what.. forget im in national forest but i am out in the booneys so i can shoot whenever.
fishing.. i wind up half the time climbin a tree getting fishin lures out or dealin with things in the pond swiping my worms off the hook..
other times when im under stress or i need to releave myself, i goto the punchin bag or work out a great sweat and collapse afterwards.
i try not let my mind have to much time doing nothing cause it can drag me down. i'd be like stephen, taking pills, which i do have a couple bottles of soma but one sorta went empty lolol gota have my sleep. heck im sure if i was around denise, she wouldn't be by herself on the bar stool....
or the ice cream shop...

Working out the excess moods on a punching bag is great stuff. I'm a guy - not a big guy but I used to be pretty beefy so the problem was finding a heavy bag and a place to put it.

They took the one down at Bally's because I was attracting too much of a gawking croud wailing all fours at their 300 pound bag for long periods of time. The yuppies didn't know what to make of it. So I ended up stuffing an old army dufflebag with encyclopeadias in the core and old blankets around the peremiter. And hung it from a joist in the basement of the house I rented.

Then one evening after a good session I saw my roommates looking at me the same way. Soon after that I realised there wearnt enough vitamins, health foods or workouts enough in the world to keep my mind together. It took seven years of being a medicinal ginney pig before life got half way worth living.

Mood swings are normal - to a point. But beyond that point its a whole different kettle of fish. Either way life is a lot of hard work in good times and bad.

I go fishing - something soothing about the water and I just get lost from reality.

Hmmm think i have a totally different approach...Being an only child, Parents were either working or partying...I delt with emotions by myself....I tried the physical route...Doing something to take my mind off whatever was bothering me..But it only helped for a short time....I later realized i had to work at a deeper level and just trying to forget about it was wasting my time.

I came to the conclusion depression is a useless emotion...Serves me or anyone around me no good at all..It just doesn't deserve the space in my head.....So as hard and as lame as it may sound....I kick myself in the ass and force myself to "snap out of it".....I realize how i'm feeling, Might not know why? But i know it's not how i want to be...Sometimes i'd write what's in my head down on paper..Just to give the words there own life outside of my brain.

It's not always easy..But i've been doing this for a long time now...Life's to short to be in a "funk"...I have the power over every emotion i experience..I will not let them control me...Once i truly realized that, Depression is not in my vocab any more...Anger and sadness are on my list of useless emotions as well. Though sometimes they deserve merit, They're never allowed to waste space for very long.

Just how i run my crazy little knoggin

I rarely get low, but when I do, I know exactly why and how to fix it immediately.

I long ago learned that I'm insane. I know that I'm insane because I don't understand all the fools around me. All of those people seem to understand each other, so I've concluded that either I'm the only sane one and everybody else is insane, or it must be me that's insane and everybody else is sane.

Now since the odds of me being the only sane person out of the hundreds I run into on a weekly basis are next to nil, I can only conclude that *they* are the sane ones and it is *me* that is crazy.

Thinking about that realization makes me smile, and we all know that it's impossible to feel low for long with a smile on your face.

My advice, go crazy and smile alot. Hey, it works for me.

Like a few on here. When I get down or depressed I,ll grab the guns and go down to the river & do a lil tree trimming , I dont like wasting ammo. Other than that jump on one of My mowers or the big tractor, & try to do sumpthin constructive. & when My wife gets home from work ( weather permiting ) She allways goes for a tractor ride. Works well for both of US . Cowboy

When I get the bluse I find it relaxing to go out in the shop and beat on some metal. Then I relax by smoothing it out in my english wheel. Some nice jazz softly in the background and just listem to the metal gliding between the rollers.....

Sounds like a Moose with a plan.

Corey, I would of agreed last week but earlier this week I had a heaping dose of sugar free ice cream. The sugar alcohols they used to sweeten it turned me into a gaseous time bomb!

Right on Sharon.
The Buddhist and Taoist use all kinds of mnemonic list to help them stay on course, and have been doing it for several centuries. Brian Brown Walker's translations are not only insightful but also beautiful.

Being on the manic side of manic-depressive, its the manias that reek most of the heck in my life. Money grows on trees until I balance my check-book. Somebody needs groceries? No problem - I can stretch a check with the best of them, I'll fill your kitchen cabinets. But you better like rice and beans if you want to eat anything from my cupboards. By the way I need a ride to the pawn shop.
