as you know i sell tshirts of cartoons to the neighborhood kids and some over ebay, well i just got sent a long letter to me about a shirt i painted a month ago saying it flaked? what the hell does that mean? is this possible? i always give the customer a print out of my safe handling instructions, and they said they followed it to a t. Could this be, did i do something wrong or is he pulling my air hose? The customer has had the shirt a good month now and claims after 1 wash it started to flake the design. I used createx paints on a black tshirt, it was marvin the martian and it was opague white, and on the opague white i put PEARLIZED GREEN, than after i held the blow drier to heat set properly. i might of even ironed it that day? But can this be? its not a print or silk press shirt, how? maybe i caked it on over the white? hes emailing a flick of it, and of course i will replace it but why has this happen?or did it not?:angry-smiley-030: :angry-smiley-030:

WELL now im the foul, im throwing those things out..that was actually my selling pitch, PEARLIZED marvin martian TSHIRTS. now i know its just a fancy name of a color and just gave the shirts a "little" texture, oo man thats terrible, i wouldnt want someone to sell me a shirt that didnt last, i feel bad now for them, i guess i cant replace it with the same design, any suggestions on how to find a solution to the problem, i want a happy customer, of course i will make a new one, i really want the word not to spread of me having bad shirts, o man let me think?:devil-smiley-033:
Ouch Nat, that really sucks...I'm no expert with the t shirt/createx combo...I've only done one shirt and it was never worn or washed....But i do know Createx makes a clear. I don't know if it'd help in your case or maybe you've tried it before?..Maybe it'll help to seal in the pearl for ya?...Might be worth experimenting with....Good luck

i know to ALWAYS satisfy the customer, and for me that is so important so they can keep passing on the word! Im thinking to replace it with just the green and FOREVER STAY away from the pearized colors. AND it does suck!!! now i have to tell this guy why or what went wrong, and that ill replace it without pearlized green! I already know that is not what he wanted:devil-smiley-033:
Hmmm, While i hate Createx anyway..It just doesn't seem right for one kind of paint (pearls) to never work right..Why do they sell the stuff then?...I dunno, maybe it's been proven to be junk no matter what.
I wonder if you got that clear and mixed it with the pearl...Maybe the clear would act as a better binder than what's in the pearl alone?....I still say try a few experiments before giving up on it..If it's a good selling point for yer Biz, (pearls) it's worth perfecting.
It may not help you with yer current prob...Unless the customer offers up the shirt for experimentation?
...Sticky situation ya got there..As long as you handle it well (sounds like you are) make good by the customer..You should be alright as far as "word of mouth" goes....Making good from an unfortunate situation may even help yer biz and customer relations.

I know nuthing about createx or tshirts other than I gave mine ( the createx )away cuz I didn,t like it. I was just wunderin, You said You heat set it with a blowdryer & possibly ironed it.
Not trying to hijack Yer thread, I was just wunderin is it possible to heatset to much ? as in making it brittle if the paint was thicker than normal. Just curious. Cowboy

im always wondering if i have to heatset now, right after the painting is still wet? or its ok if it dries first before the blow dryer or ironing? I dont know?? I was wondering the same thing, maybe it was too caked the under coat "the white opague" that has to be put on first to bring the green out on the black t. SO im like stuck what went wrong? I might just do a small spray on some messed up t and do the blow dryer thing or iron thing and throw it in the washer and dryer to test for myself..i believe the customer the more i think of it. MAYBE, one coat drying and the next layer sat on top, causing it to flake?I wish i would of know this crap w createx, dont get me wrong they are good paints for my cartoons on ts..ive been using createx for almost 2yrs and started messin w the pearlized stuff.

well the mystery will be continued after i test it out for myself..AND YES, you did stir up a mess here. I already started planning on JUNKING it..BUT CREATEX PAINTS are GREAT for the ts, I use them on EVERYTHING! So please dont get me wrong, its still a mystery im trying to find out about, ITS MOST LIKELY "MY" MISTAKE! I just havent caught it yet, the just where i went wrong!

No, don't toss em out.
To solve the problem, just intermix the Createx transparent extender with your pearlized colors. That way, they'll have the flexibility and won't chip/flake.
The problem with the pearls, etc, by themselves, is that they just don't have the flex.
It'll be ok
no worries
