I would think you'd be alright, but since I don't know for sure, the test panel would always be the best choice. Unless someone with experience replies quick enough for ya.

the key thing i'd learned from messing with kyrlons, rust ol. and etc spray bomb cans is let it dry, then do what ever. the interior in my car has a baby sky blue rust ol. over top of dupli color high build primer, basically let it dry fully out in the sun and wet sand before i went onto the next step. after the rust ol sky blue, i got some testors candy paint in the hobby section, went to town with that, let it dry throughly then hit it with thick krylon clear. however like 5 years down the road, i wished i'd used automotive urethane clear, cuase the clear went from clear to cloud clear. but all i'd have to do is wet sand it and put on automotive clear.
its all about what works with what and how you go as far as in prepping.
i know when i rush and its halfway dried for some reason it has a reaction and pops wrinkles to what have ya.. but when i let it dry a whole day and go on with the next layer next day, i never had a problem.. but i never used lacquer . basically enamels over lacquer primers...
if anything ask me, i about know it in this kind of stuff.

Should be safe, Like Pin mentioned it's all in the prep and letting the Spray can paint cure.

I used to drill holes in spray cans and drain the paint into soda bottles...I'd reduce it with Laq thinner...It never meshed well and would seperate if let sit... but it'd work to spray with......Anywho..I'd clear with omni just like anyother project..Let the spray can paint cure maybe a couple days or more...Sand, Clean and clear as norm.

I got some really old projects still kickin done up that way

ABD, when you drill a hole in the aerosal can to let the paint drip out. Do you have it spraying all over the place or how do you drain it without the big mess. I have been wondering myself if this can be done. I want to do testors spray cans but did not know how to do this.

DO NOT DRILL A HOLE IN AN AEROSOL CAN! The can is under pressure and can explode! Just as when you depress the button and paints comes spraying out, if you were to drill a hole in the can, paint would come spraying out.

urn the can UPSIDE DOWN, like youa re cleaning the nozzle.. and spray till it quits spraying.. all the liquid will remain. THEN WITH SAFETY GLASSES, CAREFULLY drill a small hole in the bottom edge. and another opposite side, let paint drain into suitable container.

I have learned the hard way about Krylon - not sure about Rustoleum. If it is a lacquer you need to barrier coat or the spray bomb paint will lift. If it's an enamel I think it will lift no matter what.

From my experience, I have learned to not even use spray bombs anymore. You never know, or I here different answers, i fthe stuff will work. I figure that If you use the same brand and type from the start, there should be no question to if it will work, the question would be then is how to paint it. I've used spray bombs for prime and base, but sometimes they just don't work. One company might have a color you want and the other doesn't. So naturaly you buy the colors, go home, spray, and there you have it- A BIG FRICKIN' MESS! I know some people don't have it in their budget, but in the long run, using the same stuff from beginning to end, to me is a lot better than sanding the project all...over...again... Just my opinion, set on my experience. But if this is what you want to do, so be it. To each, their own! But for sure use a test panel first. That I also learned from experience!HEHE!!
