What paints will be best with a Paint striper? I was looking at 1-shot only because that is what is on the Beugler site. I have been reading a little and see there are differant brands to use of coarse. What paint sets the fastest so a person can lay another color with out having to worry if they smug the first line laid?

Don't you hate the newbe's? for once, I am one again.

I've only ever used 1-shot really good paint and can be reduced easy.

as for drying time it does take a little time to harden off.

good luck

hoks are fast, but, you have to sand the area and clear after.

1shot is decent when you use the right reducer for the temps, high or low, and keep your fingers out of it :)

Most everything I've done is all in one day, most of the time in an hour or two. At first, let it set for a bit, touch your palette to see if it has set up.

have fun~

Well I found our local paint supplier handles 1-shot products and Mac brushes. Now I need to figure out what brushes to pick up and the colors to get rolling with.

What would be good for a starter kit of supplies from all of your experience?

I am going to send off the the Wizards P/S basic's DVD also.

I am still going to use the bueglers also, I need to start with something that can pull a straight line..

Thanks for responding.
I bought a "Wizard's P/S Basic DVD from the local Paint & Body supplier and ordered the other two from Wizard's "Daggers and scrollers P / S'ing"

I have a dumb question. How many of you are left handed? Does it make a difference what way the Dagger is turned? I see the Sword is trimmed at an angle. I watched the basic DVD and they were saying the brush flat side is to the left side at all times, but I do not remember with out going back at this time to watch it to know what style brush he was using. I saw it as a finger holder for the control. If one (I my self) is left handed would the flat side be turned to the right side?

I was a right handed writer in grade school but my chicken scratch was so bad it made a chicken's scratch look better than mine. The teachers made me a lefty way before I could remember, and it got worse. Suckers.
I do not do hardly anything right handed.

Do I still use the daggers as the DVD states..?

Would I be practicing from right to left or does it not matter? Just watch out so I do not smear my work....

Remember lefty's most always have a messy palm from smearing what ever they write unless they turn there work sideways. I never did turn my work sideways though..

It sucks being a lefty, in most cases we have to adjust to your so called right handed world.... We do adapt well though.

Still hold the brush as shown, because when you start, you practice every which way, Purp posted a thread with a pic of some basic lines

http://www.airbrushtech.info/AIRBRUSH/forum/showthread.php?t=15882

As can be seen in the second post you have to practice moving the brush in all directions.

I maybe wrong but I don't think the brush knows which hand you are using........

My mentor is left handed so that is not a hindrence. Always holdthe brush with the "flat" side facing tothe left. This puts the brush in the correct as made orientation.

The brushes are referred to as Swords/daggers cuz they are shaped like swords/daggers, knives and will only work one way, cutting edge must face down. So you still have to hold it with the flat facing left.
The only tme you can hold it upside down, is to clean up a corner or a connection line, but get into them drills first. Oh and there is no written law you have o do 1000 ea. Main thing is to learn control and consistency.

You have entered another world and it's a fantastic one :D

Well, you all ( I can not say guys in this case) cleared that up for me. It sucks that they did design the brushes around right handed people. Think about it, Your middle finger sites right on top of the Farrel as a good reference point.

Just messing with all of you.

That's OK, I am use to working with things that are back assword, or was that ass backwords?

Well I was watching Ebay on Mack brushes and I just bought a set of Series 30 Dagger Stripers and two other brushes, and 3 cans of one shot that was thrown in, Not sure it the paint will be any good...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110497337712&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I do not see me using the bigger machs any time soon till I learn the ropes. But the 00 and 0 along with the other two brushes should be a starter.

Was this a good deal or not. It would not be the first bad buy and I know it will not be the last... I compared the pricing with TCP on there Series 30 machs at 45.00 for the set.

Please tell me what I should have bought or what else I will need as to the fact I am the "Green horn"

If anything, I look good when I open the box with different size brushes.:banana:

I guess there is not turning back now. I am invested in this new to me field..
Now I don't think I will have any free time...

To many hobbies. This one should be the cheapest.

...It sucks that they did design the brushes around right handed people. Think about it, Your middle finger sites right on top of the Farrel as a good reference point.......
It is NOT necessarily designed around a right hand....and, it is known as a Ferrule (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrule) ....orientation goes with the style of the brush and it's purpose....
As purplemyth has mentioned, that particular brush is a "sword" and so the style orients it's use in the hand.....

I prefer index finger on top, middle finger under with pinkie out.....yes, you should try using it with both hands....
Brushing style comes forth with what suits your hand style of holding the darling hairs with a certain ferrule type...

I use long haired flat ferruled brushes also known as "truck flats" for lettering that will eventually shape themselves to a certain orientation even tho the hairs are trimmed even on the end of the hairs....I use the 1/8"x 1 3/8"out flat ferrules for outlining letterings....Once they wanna curl to their hairy own direction, that's where my handling orientation goes....

I think I am going to enjoy figuring what will work for me. But I am going to need to get a sword now. I just bought some daggers..

What is the main use for the Daggers? I figured the sword is best for stripping with curves I guess.. From I have been reading and watching. Great starting brush?

Sorry for being a dumb a$$ with all this. I do not like no knowing something.

Our local P/B Supplier is saying the two brushes have the same use. I do not think they have the same control...

Ok, then the Dagger can be used in direction as to the sword as I know can only be used flat side to the left.. Do they both pull the same style of lines than?

I found something here to help Dan....
http://www.rockyburris.com/Pinstriping_Lessons/Lesson_4_HowToHoldAPinstripingBrush.aspx
My middle finger tends to go under from years of holding lettering brushes....

Why don't you also look at flat end metal ferulled striping brushes like Grumbacker used to make...Mack has a copy now, the Mach-One.... Seems to me those being flat on both sides would work nicely for lefties.... http://www.mackbrush.com/machone.htm
Scharff (Heinz Scharff) Stripers are made the same with chrome ferrules.....

QHF online store (Quill, Hair & Ferrule) is a great supplier of all sorts of brushes including stripers and paints like 1-Shot.....
http://store.qhfonline.com/onlinestore/results.cfm?Category=FA&subcat=ALL
Their price list is also there on the left menu....
