hey guys

just slapped some clear on that helmet i just painted. the tape lines were fairly harsh so i would like to sand the clear and lay another coat or two on.
what grit would be safe to use?

hey, nice1 dude. wondered when you might chime in.

i saw on a simon murray dvd he used 1000 wet. i didnt have any otherwise i mightve done that but only had 1200 and thought that had to be way too fine. got some 600 but thought that would be too harsh. will trust your judgement though.

thanks dell

personally would never lay fresh paint over 1000..I use that for sanding out bad runs...You could get away with clearing over 400 or so..The clear will bury most any scratches...But 600 is a good "middle of the road" grit.

cool. will get er sanded n recleared tomorrow.

makes sense, the better key you can get away with, well...the better the key. :)

i guess it doesnt matter a great deal as its only a prectice helmet but its good to get in the habbit of doin it right.

1000 grit is for polishing not for keying paint use 800 or even 600

for helmets i use 400 on a minature DA with a soft interface ,a DA effectivly doubles the grit ,its very rare i wet sand these days
