Hi gang. As some of you know I recently started painting on hard surfaces. I did a grim reaper with Golden carbon black. I noticed that some areas were shinny but most areas were flat.
My question is: Are Golden paints naturaly flat and when you spray it on too thick it ends up shinny? In other words, the areas that came out shinny, did I spray the paint too thick?
I ended up wanting to keep the painting so I sprayed it with Krylon flat clear.
All info would be appreciated.
I'll post a pic of the finished painting in the sunday art show.

You answered your own question, which is yes.
To thick results in shine.
For best results, always try to spray your paint in thin even layers.

Yup as Gio said.
Should all even out once the clear is on top, flat or gloss.

Gio, I thought that was the reason but I figured I'd ask the experts.
ABD, it did all come out flat after the flat clear. Thanks for the responses.
You can see it in this weeks art show.

Hey Bill,
I just seen the finished piece in the Sunday art show.
It's all nice and flat looking.
I've also noticed an improvement on your part as well.
Looks good, keep it up :)
One more thing, try to thin out your paint a little, so that way it doesn't come out so dark, unless that's what you were after.

Gio, all my paintings are copies of a reference pic. I can't draw. I'm thinking of taking a drawing class at the comunity college. I would like to come up with my own designs. The best I could do is when I was using Createx on cloth is put 2 or 3 images together on one painting. For instance, I took 2 seperate images of cars from the movie "CARS"
and painted them in a desert scene. Did that for my cousins son.
Thanks for noticing that I am improving some, I see it myself. Right now my problem is that I did half decent on the reaper but failed miserably on 2 other images that I tried today. Oh well, I guess the more practice I do the more consistant I will get from painting to painting.

An art class is a very good idea. It helps heaps when you can draw.

As the old sane goes, "You win some you loose some"
But your right, practice will make your work more consistent.
Keep at her Bill :)
