hi i am very new to airbrushing and have some concerns about candie paints. i tried using some of the model candy paints it says to use straight from tin but was too thick so i reduced a little and then it wasnt really showing on panel. does anyone have any tips? can i use tinted single pack lacquer? or something cheaper or better? im on a very limited budget. and from uk just to let you know. just because most american stuff is hard to get over here lol.
all help much appreciated
First,,, Welcome to ABTech !!!
Now,, Candies are a different aminal than paint,,, they're dyes,, in a paint formula,,,
to get a color,, you need a basecoat that reflects the light from under the candie
and it usually takes several coats of candie to build a color,, the more the coats,,,
the more the color on the "color chip" is achieved !!! When the candie is thinned,,
it actually takes more coats to get your final color !!!
The basecoat as well determines the final result,,, a silver base gives a bright/vibrant
color,, a white,, well,, but a gold makes it warmer,, less vibrant but still a unique color,,,
it's gonna take some playing to find your comfort zone with it and may be better to
play with pigmented paint due to cost factors,, then play the candies !!!
Candies can also be used "over" pigment paint to "Tint" an overall project,,, many uses
actually other than straight candie paint jobs,, fun to experiment (play) with,,,
Good Luck on your projects !!! (post pics of your progress,, we like pics)

i understand candies as i used to do motorcycle repairs but it was a while ago and not sure on the viscosity of candy to go through an airbrush. also it was going on like tinted water wasnt very thick at all but was too thick before thinning and i only added a drop of reducer.
