Hey all!
I Have been thinking of doing a little suprise present for my mom, painting the roof of her Honda Civic!
I chatted with ABD and he suggested that I research this extensively and asking here would be a good idea.
I have Createx pains and the Glossy top coat, what kinds of things are needed to put a design on the middle of the hood?

that would be a lovely present, but what kind of car is it..Do you think shell mind you messing w her car?You better do some more research on how she would feel if you did this to her car. I mean i wouldnt mind, but some peoples cars are there prize baby, and maybe she has plans of selling it in the future or trading it in, and when ya paint it, can she still do all these things? I think you better maybe ask your dad this way she still doesnt know and you got permission to mess with it. Well if we dont hear from ya for awhile i guess it was a bad idea, lol....but all in all, your a lovely son to a mother, it the thought that counts!:beat_deadhorse:
An AA paint would be a better choice for your colorwork,,,,
I've found the createx tends to fade pretty quick in an
enviorment exposed to a lot of daylight !!!
Hate to see a lot of good effort just fade away !!!
Good Luck on it,,, post them final (WIP) Pics !!!:partyalone:

I agree with Wit, if your going to do it do it right. Use The Auto Air line for hard surfaces, topcaot with a Uro clear. Don't use an Acrylic based paint on hard surfaces, you'll have adheasion problems as well as fade out.
Main reason i suggested research here...If i'm correct Colin has never Cleared anything...Uros or spray can......I'm guessing wetsanding would be new to him also. As well as Buffing.
Everyone has to learn somewhere bud....Just a whole lot of info to learn in this subject....My personal advice would be to do some smaller projects before jumping on yer Moms hood....Get all the steps and equipment/supplies down pat...It'd suck to get lost or in trouble in the middle of a torn down hood.
I don't know what clear you got?...But if it's in a spray can..I wouldn't use that for a car....If you got a good Uro Clear..You also need...A big gun, such as HVLP preferably with a 1.4mm needle, If i'm not mistaken?..(am i right on that size guys?)....You'll need a big compressor, A place to spray that much material, Vents, Fans..Most important of all proper safety gear....Do a search on Isocynates (find correct spelling 1st, haha, sorry)...Protecting from that comes before all the spraying and learning to use the Clear..(which is a whole new beast in itself)
Safest bet would be to AB the hood and take it to a shop for final clear..Gonna cost ya some $$..But not as much as buying all the stuff to DIY.
Just a scratch on the surface Colin...i'll keep adding and sure others will lend there expertise....If ya really want to learn it, might as well learn safely and correctly from the start...
....Hope i didn't overwhelm ya with paint jargon??...You'll get it Bud:partyalone:

I agree with Dell, you want to start small and work your way up. Going directly on your moms hood might not be the best learning surface for you or your mom.:) Get a few sign blanks or an old helmet or something of that sort and start playing with some Auto Air. If you don't have the spray equipment, like Dell said take it in and get a body shop to coat it for you and see how it works out. Not in the least trying to talk you out of getting going on the hard surfaces, you just need to take it in steps and please whatever you do talk to your mom or anyone for that matter before you start customizing thier car. It's the second biggest investment a person will make so like em stock some would love to have art on em.:)
