Olympos stopped making Microns, and the quality that they put into them was more tedious than the Iwatas, so maybe that is why they stopped making them. They sold for ~$925, but I got it for just above $200. :clapping2: and it was like new too!!!!!

You are not going to believe this, but I just got another one for cheaper, and it came with an extra head assembly, and get this........
It is brand new, and never was used! The lady intended on it in the 90s, but never got around to it!!!!! WEE HA!!!:multistars:
BTW, that last one works like a dream!

Xzotic, you haven't tried a a great detail airbrush until you have tried the Olympos Microns. They designed and made a patented head system that lets you get the super detail at a lower pressure level, and you don't get the overspray that you do with the Iwata version. The feel is like silk, the downsides are that they didn't make any of the Olympos with Teflon packing or seals, and they quit making the Micron line some years ago. Now they make their Special or SP line which is much closer to the Iwata Microns. Still wonderful brushes, but nowhere near as nice as the Original Microns. Keep in mind that these have a 0.18mm nozzle, so trying to spray Createx or heavy paints would be a nightmare if not impossible.
airarts, I am jealous too! To find one is amazing at this date, but to find two, and in those conditions and at those prices....

can you still get parts for them?

Everything but the head assembly is the same as the SP models which are still in production, so yes on the packing, the needle, etc. The only limitation is the original nozzle head assembly. Originally these came with two full head assemblies, one installed, and one packed away in it's own little case. All the pieces were matched, aligned, and tuned at the factory to work perfectly together. I believe you can substitute the SP nozzles but they aren't the same design as the originals.

That's too bad they stop making them. Did Olympos ever make a sidefeed (SB)Micron?

I don't know? I thought back in the 1980s that the Olympos was made by Iwata and it was just their upper level model! Even some of the parts were interchangeable, I think a friend told me that so it was just hear say me because I was sold on Thayer & Chandler and pretty much I still am.

Redranner, you have it reversed, Iwata contracted with the factory making the Olympos brushes to make airbrushes for them. Iwata was, and is, making really nice spray guns, but they wanted to get into the airbrush market Olympos was very high end brushes, and they were local to Iwata at the time, so it seemed like a natural fit for them. They used pretty much the same naming strategy, and for the Microns, they were able to use all of the technology except for the patented nozzle and head unit. That is why most of the parts could be used between the two makes. But if you ever see original Olympos parts, compare them to their Iwata counterparts, you will see differences in the amount of polishing and finishing. That was how Iwata cut their costs down. If you see any of the older packages for the Olympos brushes, you will see that Media, the importer and marketing company, was importing them first, then went with the Iwata brushes at a later date. I think they may have gotten the Iwata versions for less money, so their profit margins would go up carrying them rather than the Olympos.
As far as a sidefeed Micron brush from Olympos, I believe they did, but I won't swear to it. I have a couple of SBs and an Micron SB, and I like them. My only complaints are the swedge or friction hold for the side cups, it limits the size of the cup, and it makes it way to easy for the sidecups or bottles to fall out, which they always do at the worst possible moment for me. But if you ever get a chance to try the Olympos Microns, go for it. The detail, the feel, and the control will tell you the difference right off the bat.
When Olympos was at it's peak, it made more models of airbrushes than the rest of the industry combined. They had all kinds of oddball models, stuff for every use or industry you could think of.
