Caution, I need my hand held through this.
I've read and read but still it's not clicking.
I know what I want to do but am struggling to figure out what I need.
First, what I'm trying to do..
1st Black base.
2nd A mix of black, clear, and red pearl powder.(kind of a black cherry).
3rd Clear to seal it down.
4th Taped and flamed with a silver of some sort.
5th Red candy over everything.
6th Final clear.
Questions.s.s.s.s.
I've been reading dupont info.
Seem to be a gazillian bases and clears.
Then there is Nason, Chroma, Hot Hues.
Catalized, non catalized.
Dang. I was painting when you picked your laquer color and temp range thinner.
What do I need???
It can't be as daunting as I'm making it out to be.
Since I'm just painting a tank and 2 side covers, I hate to buy gallons of product to use a quart.
Can I use the same clear to mix with base, seal the base, tint with candy, then catalize the final coat, I'm sure not.
HELP!!!!!

Hey Carson, I,m not sure what yer going after. When You say kinda like Black cherry, Why not just Use black cherry. Its got everything in it Ya need. Chromabase # B 8414 K, . Then I would just shoot regular Catalized clear over it, to lock it down . Then Yer flames , candy, & final clear. . As far as Candys & such just make sure & stick with dupont all the way through as dupont and most other products dont play well together for some reason. Hope this helps some. Cowboy

Maybe I've been over thinking this.
Is that a pearl?
And will the jobber have a chip that I can look at.
The look I want is a near black until the sun hits it.
Then a deep red to pop out.

Carson, The Black cherry contains. jet black, transperant red, violet blue, med fine alum, red pearl, & Balancer. Yes it looks black till the light hits it And then it goes Bamn. its my favorite base color is why I know so much about it. I,d say go for it. & Yes They should be able to show you a chip Or possibly a practice plate. Which is much larger & easier to see, Cowboy

One of the bad things about living in the sticks.

Yer welcome. You might also see if They carry Evercoat products. They have great 2k primers & clears , That are compatable with Dupont products & a fraction of the cost. Cowboy

Hey Carson. I used the 2000 2K overall clear, because most of My stuff were completes # 10 2624. The activator You can get in different temps, according to Yer conditions. BUT . They do have a spot repair also for smaller jobs like bikes and stuff Same choice of activators . & there Uro fill 2k primer is as good as any I,ve ever used. also for finish fill for scratches and shallow dents. the 2 part polyester filler is great. & easy to sand, with 0 shrinkage. But these are just My opinions. so Do what You want. I do know They work great with the chromabase system. & much cheaper, I never tried a product unless I used it on My own stuff first. I Hope You like it. Cowboy

Have you added any of the dupont candy cons to the Evercoat catalized clear?
Or is there another option on the red candy.
The paint store guy really isn't that helpfull.
I walk in with questions and walk out scratching my head
more confused than when I went in.

Good Question Carson. No I havent. The last candy jobs I efer did mixing in the clear I used dupont 7500 speed clear, I beleive thats the #,. Its just something You,d have to experiment with, On test panels. & see how it reacts,
I used to kinda make my own paint mixes/candys/pearls by using there pure pigments/ binders & blenders. & powders. But I would allways test My concoction on something of mine before ever using it on a customers project. The outcome would allways be very different & kewl. The drawback Was trying to recreate it in case in need of repair.
I,d say just try it out. I know not much help, sorry. Cowboy

One more question,, again.
If I want to spray either a pearl or candy blended in clear.
And it is going to be sprayed against a taped edge.
Is a finish clear going to create a worst tape line than a clear blender?
The taped flame is going to be lightly sprayed.
You mentioned that Evercoat is OK to use with Dupont.
Any recommendations on Nason Clears.

Yes Carson theres no doubt the tape edge will be thicker than a normal base Color but if applyed light enough I doubt it will be much of a Problem.
As far as Nason, When I got Pissed at my Dupont supplyer by the often changes in there products , They gave Me a bunch of Nason stuff. It wasn,t terible And Maybe I didn,t give it a fair shot . But I didn,t care for it much. But it is Made by Dupont so I would assume it will cross mix with there other products. Good Luck. Cowboy
