anyone here worked with a matt clear?
what do you do if you get a sag/run? What about dealing with orange peel, or do you just not really see it?
Heard a trick but never done it....I guess you can sand out runs/sags/orangepeel like you would any other clear...Then you load your gun with reducer and spray that over the piece..Guess it'll soften the surface enough to let the scratches melt back into themselves and disappear...But again, I have no experience with it sooooooo.
I've used the 2part clears on signage,,, the "Shine" far outlast the "Matt",,,
can't tell ya about the "Runs" tho,, always shot them flat (laying down),,,
the Flat Black (matt) look was popular around here for awhile,, but the life
of the paint just does'nt hold up compared to the shine counterpart,,,
diff climate may make diff effects on the paint life,, this is Texas,,, nuff said !!!
If you're playing with it,, stay clear of a customers project,, it'll come back on ya,,,
otherwise,,, have fun,, post your progress,, and Good Luck on it !!!

Know it's popular for Old Skool projects.
Lechler used to do a ready mixed matt clear, was looking at it for a project for myself, was gonna bobber my last bike as a little project and fancied it flat looking, the rest I believe is an additive you mix into a ready mixed clear, ie you mix up your clear then add as 1 to 1 mix.
As Dell says it probably is the same approach to finishing off as you arent going to get the shine no matter how much you buff as it has a flattening agent in it but should still give you the UV protection a that is in the normal clear, if it all makes sense

yup, have seen the additives somewhere, and know of the lechler matt system. Have just been asked if I can do a satin finish as well!

The satin finish I belive can be obtained by what paint you use, in other words you don't bother with the clear the paint is good to go, only prob there is if graphics are involved that have to be cleared over .

but what about if you used a polish on the paint, it would take it off, and possibly start to put a shine on it if it was uncleared? I'm sure I've seen a satin paint or additive somewhere..

I wonder what effect you'd get by mixing matt clear with gloss clear, in equal parts? LOL

Nope thats the point of satin paint, can clean polish as normal but you are not going to get shine, same as a matt clear, the satin paint basicaly has the clear added to it so no further clear is required. Paint is toothed at about 400 grit not going to lift it off as long as the prep before hand is good.
As for the mixing don't know lol...........might get an inbetween effect, know you normaly take a clear coat add equal measure flatting agent to get you flat clear, don't know what happens if you then cut it back with say 50% clear again, should all be compatable as all you are doing is dilluting the flattening agent.
