here's mine for the week. working on a new hood this week. everybody's looks great!!
Some Great Stuff so far Folks !!!
My contribution this week is a mistake made while painting,,,
air vent in bottle plugged up,, tried to blow back thru the brush,,,
so I popped the bottle not realizing it had pressurized due to the
blow back,,, so,,, it spewed paint from beginning to end across
the T being painted,,, end result was it was still there,, has no
purpose in the subject matter,, but at least I did'nt loose a shirt !!!
Great Show Everbody,,, Keep throwin stuff in the pot !!!
AndyW

Whit did you add some drop shadow under the "mistake"

Nice save Whit!!
The reason I posted this particular subject was to show,,,
accidents happen,,, live with it,,, some can be salvaged,,,
some can't,,, with the newer members here to the craft,,,
it shows,,, Everybody's been there,,, no biggie,, and for
the most part,,, nobody knows it was a missfire but you:jump:

The pic i posted was ruined when i pulled off the masking. Pulled it up and half the lettering that I just spent 3 hours on was gone....shit. Spent the rest of the day fixing the lettering. Took a pic but its on my laptop wicth is off out in my shop right now. Will post tomorrow a before and after pic. Incase anybody is interested.
Question......When I lay out my masking paper and I paint my picture, how long do I wait untill I pull up the masking paper? When the paint is still fresh or do i let it dry? I waited until it was dry and half of the paint came up with the masking. I know now I used the wrong masking for this job. Lesson learned....

Apart from the type of masking you used, it is better generally to take off early for the reason you said, once the paint is dry especially at edges you can get a build up so it grabs more as you take off.
Always better to try and pull away from, as in towards the side, against pulling straight up as well.

If you have left the masking on a bit long and the paint is dry then run a razor along the edge of the mask before pulling back on it.

tonights efforts...
Nice show guys!
HR...sometimes the window is so small that there is no right or wrong time to peel it off...but generally when the paint is just tacking up, then its time to peel it...using a razor after the fact works,,,but on your lettering...that would have SUCKED!!!!
Thanks for the kind words Scorp...I feel the same way about your stuff!!
Keep the pics coming people...we're gettin to be just like old times here!

Its what your body gets used to. Ive heard dont know if its true but ive heard that the human body only needs 4 hours of sleep a night. I get mine with power naps during the day if i dont sleep well the night before.

Sleep is for the lazy and is way over rated. I go on about 3-4 a night and that is constantly interupted by my sleep apnia. It just gives me more time to work on shit in the silence of the night.

Paints used were HOK basecoat black with Mike Lavelli true fire kit and ici clear coat.

Not completely happy with this, but it time to move on. I did some scratching on this. I was scared at first cause I thought I would ruin it. Lots to learn. Haven't had much time to airbrush with taxes and all that good stuff. When the weather warms up I am putting a leopard on the side of my car that is hissing. Can't wait!

ABD: yes, that is the 5 o' clocker. I used a knarly tooth brush but it was a little too chunky so I smudged with my finger so it would be so bold. Thanks. I never quite like anything I do. Always something a little off. His eye look not aligned but I think it is the angle of the picture b/c it looks fine in person. I will eventually get my camera out of better photos.

I don't know if anyone likes their own work all the time...lol....I think it came out great.....On the eye, are you talking about the right pupil, (his left)...I can see how it might be a bit askew..real subtle like...but hell who's to say peoples eyes don't do that a bit naturally..IF it's off at all I don't think it's anything that hurts the art..Looks fine to me.
shesakura
02-02-2011, 09:22 PM
ABD: yes, his left eye seems turned a little. The shadows around his eyes were hard to get right. He has no space between his brows and eyes which was a challenge for me. I just want more realism I think. Everything I have ever done has a cartoon look. I did want to be a cartoonist when I was little :) but I want more realism while not looking like a photo (I keep telling my husband that if I want it to look like a photo I might as well spend less time and just take a picture). I want realism while still having the airbrushed look :) Practice, Practice, Practice.

Wow Dell! As an Aussie, I'm in awe of that snow! can't imagine what it would be like to get that in your backyard. we have an alpine region over here, but nothing like U.S ..looks like you've had a good lot of it too! But I suppose we whinge about the heat over here and you whinge about the snow
Shesakura - I think you have done a great job! Don't worry too much about the eye being turned a little..., it matches his brain! ..no seriously, Dell is correct in saying that some peoples eyes don't focus perfectly straight, so i don't really think it matters too much....it is a seriously good rendition :D

I dont think anybody is 100% happy with there work.Except maybe MOB. Im learning not to overpaint a peice. I tend to keep going cause im never 100% happy. Its so hard to learn "when to say" when on a painting.
Just my 2 cents

02-03-2011, 11:41 PM
yep, walkin' away is an art in itself!!
And no, I am never happy with my work...I look at stuff by the big name players in the biz, and say to myself..."holy crap, I hope I live long enough to get to THAT level!!"

02-04-2011, 04:07 AM
I agree with you HR it is hard to say when its enough but I had peeps like Andy,Dell and Air Dave that gave me so much help and I think that was the best help I got. Also I don't think anyone is ever happy with their work even "the big name players" and if you ever get to a point when you think "I am happy with everything I do" then its time to quit. Van Gogh never stopped trying to be better I read a long time ago that he was looking at a sunset and commented "God knows how to paint I wish I was that good". I don't know if it is true but I got the message and I never stop trying its the only way.

large prints done on but hey its a first
for me. Its done with AA paints with
a Iwata HP SB a custom micron and a
Hasna 281 its 24"x16" and about 5 1/2
hours on it and me I am quite happy
with it.

Hello everyone :-)
A little bit of history....my husband is a car freak and has wanted me to get into painting cars for years. I airbrush sporadically - something that is changing this year !!!! so I can't say I've been airbrushing for x amount of years - because I haven't. I can however count the pieces I have done (on both Hands :-) this is my fourth attempt - still have a long way to go, but had the time of my life doing it, awesome fun !!!!! Cheers.

Carlos - Clean and simple.....sometimes it's just what a piece calls for :) Very nice!
Kim - I know what you mean...keep at it. you have serious talent....
Thanks girls :-) I really want to work on getting a more 3D look this year - everything I do always looks flat ......
Thanks girls :-) I really want to work on getting a more 3D look this year - everything I do always looks flat ......
Kim, Bored here, so hope ya don't mind I messed with your pic....I think with some minor shading (highlights and shadows) you could get closer to the look you are after....I did this real quick with my finger on a laptop, so it's very crude...But if you did that with paint more detailed would add a lot of shape to yer critter....Some brighter shading on the highest spots (the ones that would be closest to you.(think bumps, raised edges on the body).and some darker shadows on the low spots or where it'd be touching the surface it's on.
Hope that makes some sense.
That looks great !!! It certainly makes a difference.... hmm more practice me thinks :-) feel free to keep the advice coming, actually I have a million questions - as soon as I clear my drawing boards (in the middle of house renovations) and no air- con in 35 degree heat - really blocks the gun quickly, makes it impossible to spray .......(excuses).................... I shall begin :-)
great work everybody.
thanks for showing it.
