Nailed it, really takes alot of skill to get the brush to spin in your fingers. I've tried it but you really have to put your hours into it. MP

Beauty of the scrollers don't have to spin the brush, have found myself doing it a bit at times as it seems to aid but you don't have to, just practice lol.......doing about 6 hours a day at the moment.

Actually with me being off I have time now to practice it, I have one shot and all the brushes already. Still would be nice to be able to stripe flames on a tank when the time comes up. MP

What you got Macks?

When stripping flames start in the middle of the curve and pull towards the tip to end, is a far neater way to do it.

WOW Andy !....methinks you have a real knack for that style!

I really like the upright bird!...

I'm nary an expert with the style so can't give solid advice or critique, tho I would enjoy to see a touch more negative space between the feathers or not quite so close together....

AndyW
04-09-2011, 01:14 AM
I'll have a play Jimmy, some of it might be me seeing if I can lay close without merging lol.....

purplemyth

I agree with jimmy, little more space. But also see if you can pick up on the ends, not blunt but to sharp points, that adds to the finesse or delicacy of scrolls I think.
That's why I like shorter hairs, I can flip them in a curve.
All takes time and your style is developing :)

so,,,, are ya done yet? :D

AndyW
04-09-2011, 09:09 AM
Leave it with me Boss an I'll see what I can do...............better hopefully.

Andy developing style is... the more you practice the more you do the same style.. like carlene's is totally different from yours even though you do the same scroll and comas...

AndyW
04-10-2011, 11:04 AM
eh?

Yes my man, I am goining to lay some paint down today..........hahaha............................. ...

Cheers Sharon..........nice to see the same but different.

Anyway tried the negative space increase but hated the next one.........

36539

This is closer to being happier, the lines are finer, yip couple of brush slips but has a lighter feel to what I have been doing, greater negative space, that you can see a bit of scrolling through the feathers.

36538

Sick of variations of this design for the moment lol.........try something new tomorrow.

Looking Good Andy !....methinks it looks better with more space between the feathers and being able to see some curls underneath....

....Sick of variations of this design for the moment lol.........try something new tomorrow.

I can understand such.....have you thought of trying other "animal" designs of the wizardly style...?

Like fishes....?
I bet you could dream up some really cool "fish" designs....

I think so too Jimmy

Its got a bit fat and overindulgent looking again, thinking pic two at the start, combined with elements of the last pic and all should look nice then, why we practice, that an trying to learn when to stop ha ha.....

AndyW

Heheee, the birdies' been flyin' out and nibblin' in your garden whilst ya weren't looking...

Your practice IS progressing quite nicely....It's gonna be time very soon to lay the curlies on some coloured backgrounds....

Carlos
04-10-2011, 06:44 PM
yeah knowing when to stop is quite a skill in itself. I tend to find I have to stop and walk away at some point though, because I just get so frustrated at trying to get it right.. never happy, but then quality of work starts to slip. Sometimes have to go away do summat relaxing, come back with fresh eyes fresh outlook

we can see you're enjoying it.. cool stuff.

All I can say is your style is coming along awesome Andy. The one thing I would suggest you think about while you're working on the style is that you've already stated you want to stripe your bike. Start looking at your style from fat to narrow left to right (or right to left) so you can fit a balanced design on the side of a gas tank.

The striping is incredible, but I haven't seen anything yet that will give full balance and the appropriate amount of negative space on the side of a bike tank. Measure your tank, front to back, top to bottom and stripe a template to those dimensions on something... then let the imagination soar with ideas that will rock that bike. Even negative space all the way around the sides of the tank.

If you can wrap your head around the balance concept, I don't see why you can't go pro with striping bikes. It's easy to stripe cars or panels (well, not for me) but balance on the compound curves on a motorcycle tank is a whole 'nuther thought process.

AndyW

Cheers Ron, Tank "top" will be something along the phoneix line, love the idea for templates, can do the same for the fenders as well, more happy thoughts.

Well just so happens today I thought I would play with my old helmet ohh what fun on curves............

LOL. Yeah, compound curves can kick your ass... but it looks like you pulled off fairly well. It's hard to look at one side and see what you've done with the various angles of the compound curve and balance it on the other side. On the back of your helmet it looks like you got a little bit higher on the left side than you did on the right, but it's still kick ass striping.

Lookin Good Andy,,, Lookin Good !!!

AndyW
04-12-2011, 12:45 AM
Lol Ron, probably because I am more comfortable scrolling left to right, that the other way kicks my butt a bit, but as it was all freehand no grid etc, was quite pleased that it came in close both sides.

Norm

Lookin good Andy! Helmets are a challenge period!!!

AndyW
04-12-2011, 10:54 AM
Cheers Norm, there is always the best one, remember reading some ones comment about doing striping at shows when some one comes up an says about that side isn't the same lol.........
