new WIP-critique please

I've been working on this project a bit this week. It's a painting of a Corsair over Gaudalcanal, painted on an actual piston from the engine of a Corsair.
I've got it to a point where I think it looks decent, but it's still not quite "there", and I can't figure out for the life of me whats missing.
Any help is much apprectaited.

HAHAHA, Now I know why you collect those pistons I saw on ebay! I love how you did your propellers! Is there a way you can use your Olympos 100B to put some highlights on the clouds. The Silver Lining kind. You can also put some larger soft tones in a darker value in the bellies of the clouds. Try practicing on a piece of paper first.

yeah, scratch that one. I got pissed off at it tonight and decided to start over and use a different ref pic. Over all I think I will look alot better, since the new pic isn't from such a wierd angle. Only hard part is that the new pic is in black and white, so I kind of have to make the colors up as i go.
