hi GUYS,
i have some murals i need to post in here, but let me give you guys some information on this dance mural.
I rented a scissor lift,,WOO HOO and who would of known a girl was the one who could be the driver, everytime i let a guy try to figure it out they were complete idiots, also my arm had terrible bruises after this project from leaning over the rail trying to watch my wheels turning, the machine would jerk alot and cause me to slam my body into the guard rail. Nothing major tho, thats the war wounds. This was all done in rattle cans, montanna. Best outdoor paint.
So i never been up this high for a mural, and was like "SURE SURE i can do it" haa was it an experience. I really dont have anyone helping me with this stuff so it gets frustrating when i want to take on bigger projects and have no one.
The guys in the locksmith shop i use to work for years ago they always seem to come around and put a hand in and help out, one guy stayed for the day and helped me line up my stencil for the store lettering.
what luck was it, that the letters i drew at home were the exact size of the place next door, i never thought of finding the standard sizes for store letters on awnings, it just was pure luck i did that.
I have to say after this project i will do more second floor levels, and im still a bit confused on how they get the design layed out when its windy and its so big the wall that the stencil is folding over your head and no one is holding the other end. and hitting the pounce is just not working? I always looked up to whit on mural info, cause of him ive been able to take my murals to this level,,thanks whit.
This is all my drawing and design, the only thing the customer wanted BLUE curtains,,i did not agree with but she has another store that has blue awnings so she wanted them to match eachother, i think red curtains like i originally drew would of been a great pop out piece, but all in all it came together so well.

Took me 2 days, from 10am to 8pm , then 10am to 3pm,,not so bad alittle paralized afterwards:animal-smiley-071:

thanks norm, do you know how many people doubted this project,,and how many told me no you cant do that its too high , you dont have the equipment? i was like no way , im gonna find the resources and do it. i have video of me stuck with the lift on a fence,,lol,,yeah and i hate to admit, i did some idiot unsafe moves by driving it over cellar doors,,i had to get to the other side somehow. the lady was super happy with it,,and so was I. The whole neighborhood was out there watching me all day, and rooting for me.
No one complained it all went smooth.

Nat that is cool work , the lift you rented is one of the most pain in the ass lifts to move,, But it beats scaffolding.. You are a brave woman . I want to see the video of you stuck on the fence...
But end result you go the job done and it looks great.

Very nice Nat, no... better than very nice. Excellent. Those lifts do take some getting used to. There's just something un-natural about driving one around using that joystick when you're 15 feet off the ground. It can be spooky when they start swaying and jerking around.

As far as handling large templates by yourself, roll the template up and start at one end. Use copious amounts of masking tape as you move. Unroll it as you go, and tape it down. The more wind, the more tape. It helps if you provide yourself with registration marks on the starting end so you can measure out the starting point and end up with it being level over the whole length. Two registration marks on the starting end, one close to the top and one close to the bottom. Then two more registration marks about 8" from the starting end, one at the very top and one at the very bottom. Measure it out, line it up, and lay it down. Start working on whichever end you want, and remove the tape as you move down the line. I've laid out 55' tractor trailer rigs all by myself going that route and been within 1/8" of true level over the whole length.

I can't believe I missed this one, Sorry..

Nat. you are braver that you think.. I hate scissor lifts.. Hanging sheetrock inside on a cement floor from one is challenging enough! I would NoT
use one of them outside.. to many bumps and obsticles. But you did an Awsome Job Nat.. keep up the good work..
