Wow, don't know value Dell, but that is quite a collection. I would have to think its quite valuable to a vintage plane collector, but how much, who knows? Maybe try one of the online hobby sites....very cool stuff!

Damn , Dell, thats quite a collection. 500 Bucks is a steal. I built them when I was a kid along with battleships & stuff. but also being a gun nut. They didn,t survive the battles. You,d be amazed at a couple of ounces of gun powder properly placed will do. lol. Oh the memories.
As far as worth, ebay might be His best way out. At least for a few to get a feel. Then He might make some contacts from there. dont cost much to try. If I had to guess, theres a few of the old Biplanes & War planes that could bring 100 ta 300 bucks apiece. Depending on a few details. I,ll see if I can find a site or more info. But thats a kewl find. Cowboy

I have been to a few model shows and to tell you the truth the money is in the models that are still in the box and have not been built yet.

Yup i agree...something untouched is always worth more....They might look cool all Painted up..But i'm sure it hurts the value...
Does anyone have an idea of the scale of some of these?...I asked him if it's written anywhere but he couldn't find it...That would help in researching them i believe....Thanks

Jason and I had the same idea. I would be temped to glue the wheels down so I could use an air hose to keep them dusted with out them flying all over the shelves.
If this is from an estate there is a good chance of some being very rare. It would take quite a bit of work to get good close ups of each and every plane to show the quality of the build ups to the customers. Exactly what they are would likely be already known by a person willing to part with real coin for the cherry pieces, yet a lot of questions will flow from eBay auctioning of these.
Sure there is likely a couple grand there, but a novice might easily sell the best pieces for too little and be out a good deal of labor. If one was willing to sit on the merchandise for quite a while they would likely find the right buyer to take them at about 60% of their true worth. Thats what I would do, I wouldn't want to piece meal the whole collection. This way your return is (?) X Investment. instead of possibly ?/? X Investment and a lot of time gambled.
These may be fools gold. But even fools gold gets resold eventually it just takes longer. I would shop some pictures around the area antique auctions if you have any. You might just get a cash offer or at least a chance to sell at very little risk with the set going for no less than the minimum acceptable bid, you would only be out a minimum service charge that covers the auctioneers trouble.
Good luck.

Thanks again all.....I've searched around doing the google thing....100's of pages of crap mostly..Never find anything close to what i'm looking for...........I told him we'll take some close ups of some of the older ones..Maybe we can hunt a particular one down...Just have to keep looking em up separately, Maybe piece an overall value together oneday.......I'm guessing they'll just rot on his shelves for a long while anyway:)

Thanks a bunch Cowboy...I'll get to lookin:)
Just a thought,,,,,
should he go the e-bay route,,,
don't go individual pieces,,,
go with sets,,, mabye 5 to a set !!!
Mix the good pieces with the not
so good pieces so you can sell all
and not be left holding the not so
good pieces with no market for'm !!!
Buyers will pick n choose if you let them
and pick all the good ones of any value
leaving you to care for a not so valuable
collection,, but still takes up room !!!
Just a thought !!!:speechless-smiley-0
