SO I said my gear was here. Actually I was waiting for another 2 boxes. UPS said they were on the truck and would be delivered no later than PM. Come to find out the packages are still 3 hours away. Now I will supposedly get them on Monday. Good thing I am happy today about getting all the other stuff or else I would be speaking to someone much higher on the food chain about getting my package now or compensation.. OK back to making a mess.

Glad ya got the goods. Like they say the aggrivation starts here. As far as room, I wouldn't know. Most of my practice is setting between the forge and the drill press.

As far as what to do now, Dots, Lines and Daggers.

Enjoy

Ponder, being as how we are both new to this I am going to attempt to give you the information I have gathered. I could easily be wrong and if I am, I am hoping someone will correct this so we both can learn.

Part of the control for the air is how far down you push the trigger. If I keep the trigger all the way down I have all kinds of problems. Paint blows out all over (spiders). Try different depths on the trigger for the difference in flow.

Slowly pulling and returning the trigger back for the desired size spray builds the dry tip faster. If you can get to the size you want quickly and release quickly helps reduce this.

When you see the spray pattern alter in any way, blow out or wipe the tip. Don't try to get another spray out of it. You won't like it.

Maybe you are past this but this is where I am at. Hopefully this is use full and if it is wrong someone will correct what I have stated.

Enjoy

Clem asked me to respond to this post...
hopefully my two cents is helpful and not anymore confusing!

Clem

Double action airbrushes have 2 controls.
Push trigger down to control air flow.
Pull trigger back to (open tip size) and increase paint flow.
(stating the obvious!!)

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe the trigger was originally designed to control air pressure. Basic control is on or off.
Although, as you become more experienced with the airbrush, a delicate touch can allow you to vary the air pressure when spraying.
But this is not something I would recommend for beginners.
The "air on all the time" approach is the best way to paint and get results.
It also eliminates the need for attention paid to that process during painting.
Your attention should be focused on: regulating paint flow and spray width, controlling the movement of the airbrush, positioning and varying distance from the work surface, and adjusting line pressure (at the regulator) to suit the painting needs.
Yes, "air on all the time" may result in "tip dry", but get into the habit of doing two things...clean your tip all the time while painting (I use my fingers, to pull dry paint off the tip constantly) and clear your tip (spray out) before aiming your airbrush at the work surface. (In other words, spray off away from your work, each time you are ready to start painting, to clear the tip)

If you have problems keeping the trigger down all the way, maybe your air pressure is too high? or you are too close to the work surface for the paint/pressure? or your "paint" is overthinned? or something else?

Something else to keep in mind...never let go of the trigger, until you have eased the needle back to its resting position (within the tip). Alot of beginners let go of the trigger allowing the needle to "slam" back into the tip. This impact, flares the tip and damages the needle and tip very quickly.

Thanks for the response.

So when I catch the spot between open and closed I am doing more harm than good. Forget what I said JC, just a passing thought.

For ease of getting to the needle,,, to clean,,,
on my Paasche I've sanded the air cap down
to where the needle is exposed and accessable,,,
on my Iwatas I simply just take the cap off
to work and serves same purpose to clean !!!
Not recommending unless you're very familiar
with your brush but sure makes it easier to
get the tip-dry !!! My Iwatas all run the Crown
cap but on close work,,, they come off !!!
-
just be aware that this exposes the needle !!!

You mean your supposed to leave the air cap on??? Crap. I guess I need to go find 'em.

I thought you were supposed to toss 'em in the corner with all the other worthles junk.

This is a Paasche that's sanded down,,,
just to show what I'm talking about !!!
Hope it shows up,,, scuze my dirty brush
but they're all like that here,,, :wink2:

I do the same with the handles as well as the air cap, off in the corner (actually stored, but I don't know what for). If I couldn't pull the needle back out of the tip when I take breaks or go to do something else, I would go crazy!

Hey Whit!!!!! What do ya use that Machete by the fire extinguisher for!!!!!:wink2:

Hey Steel, doesn't everybody use one of those to cut premask? I thought it was just me.:D

Dave, Clem, more good sense tips for the new artist, very cool. Ponder, have some fun, and lets see what you decide to paint first. Good luck, and enjoy!:dog:
