Hi Dave, can you please post info on adding to your paint or whatever it is that you do to get a good spray. WHen the paint seems to comes in different consistantcies. Hope I am saying this correctly.
I am still very new to this. ( Just wanted to say that..LOL) I read a post that said the use of different size needles and tips are for paint thickness. I just have all my guns loaded with 3's Paasche VLs. I changed my black from createx to Aqua Flows. I dont have any splatter with AF. But its thick. My mind tells me to try a size 5 for all my line work( I only AB clothing). Does that make sense?
Ya may have asked the wrong question here for Dave. If I remember right Dave does not add to paint. He will have some answers for ya I'm sure.
I really can't help ya cause I have only been at this about two months.
Isn't it nice to be able to know that help is close by.

Yeah...not sure what to say...
If I am using a Paasche VL...I would be only using a #3 tip and needle.
(Only time I ever used #1 or #5 was, when I had no #3 tips and needles left, or if I wanted to spray large fill areas and needed a wide fan spray. VL#1 tip is too small for Createx, but would be okay for inks or urethanes)
Each job uses only one type of paint, so prepare ahead for that job.
(ie Urethanes don't mix with Createx acrylics)
All you can do is refer to the manufacturers guidelines for mixing and reducing.
Sometimes they can tell you minimum tip or nozzle sizes for certain paints.
I thin my paints with the manufacturer required thinners or reducers.
I only overthin when I am trying to create a really transparent colour or toner.
I thin Createx and other water based paints with distilled water only.
(Got a dehumidifier? thats free distilled water! just strain it)
...and generally no more than 10% to avoid damaging the binders in the paint.
if paint won't spray, its because my gun is dirty or clogged, my components are leaking air somewhere or my regulated pressure is too low.
If I am sure my gun and parts are all clean, and no leaks...then I start increasing my pressure until I get the spray I need to work with.
Strain your paints to avoid clogging from paint. Createx and other acrylics can harden in the pots and bottles and needs straining. Older paint bottles, I will add some distilled water, shake and mix real good, then strain for use in my gun.
