I thought about this last night. As I haven't done them,,, yet...I would think you have to start the skulls first, then you would build the flames around and thru them.
I haven't seen 'how to' anywhere yet for the hidden in true fire, but some progress pics of the more fluid ones by fraiser.I have fraiser's tape, he does a small set on it, and thats what he did. sorry not much more help than that. try some practice pieces and have fun : )
Thats what I figured I'd do, just looking for a little insight. Digures you would build it just like the fire (from dark to light).

Mickey's done it in demo's and DVD... as well as Lavalee...
if you're working on black you could start laying it in at any time, working the black in and around the skull...then coming back in with your colours - dark to light to pull it all together. It's mostly the eye sockets, nose opening, and teeth that you're going to see...if you're burying the skull in flame.... not the outline of the head, persay.
As I said, if you're working on a black background, you can push and pull this sucker all day long....workin it until you get something you're happy with.
I don't own any of Captain Stencils DVD's (Fraser)...sorry, can't help you there.

I use light spray of mixed pearl in the intercoat. Work around it with fire. All kinds of ways to do this man. Lavalee & Mickeys has great instructional dvd on this. After watching it, you will be doing it in your sleep & while you eat.
