logging out

I ran into a situation few days back, and it was interesting..
I got email notification if someone replies to something I posted on, and I came in to THAT page, and logged in, and replied again.. all is good..
HOWEVER I could NOT log out, caue the front page thought I wasnt logged in? IS there a way?? of checking to see if the user is still present and after....hour??? of inactivity or so, log them out automatically?
Just a thought..

I just stay logged in,,, I tend to jump
around a lot so just simplifies it to not
have to remember things like,,, was
that a "uppercase or lowercase" when
having to logg back in all the time !!!
