I have a ways top go with my practice strokes but they are getting better daily. I am currently using newsprint to practice on using createx airbrush opaques. This is all i currently have for paint and it is realitivelly harmless to shoot in the basement. I know soon I will get bored with dots and daggers so I was wondering what would be a better grade paper to shoot the createx at. I was thinking of maybe something like watercolor paper or maybe hot or cold pressed. Not ready yet but want to start planning for the near feature.

if you want to go for more control, use something slick like cardboard........but i 'd suggest getting yourself some old t-shirts to stretch over that cardboard, pronto......fabric is very forgiving and it'll be a fun diversion for you at this point me thinkies!

Go to WallyWorld and pick up a "Single Flat" white bedsheet !!!
Very inexpensive and tear in half making it even cheaper !!!
Gives two large work surfaces on fabric,,, and as has been
mentioned,,, very forgiving on fabrics !!!
You can do some large (easier to work) pieces and get your
practice in at the same time !!!
Just a thought !!!

Moose,
If you are going to get into tshirts start doing your practice stuff on paper towels. As soon as you feel like you are ready you can play on old shirts you have laying around the house.Lettering is a must learn when you are doing shirts. Then your art work will come. But learn your dagger stroke, loops, dots, fades and so one. This will really help you.Get Begining airbrushing by Terry Hill. That was one of the best buys I make when I started.Good luck.
