I'm looking to paint my bike before summer is over. I was wondering, I know you don't have to clear coat when pinstriping, But do I have to clear coat if I do some art work? or can I just let it be and cure it under heat lights..?

Well I can't swear on it..But I always heard you didn't need to clear one shot on anything..Some say not to clear at all or bad things will happen..I never had a prob ,(knock on wood)
So I don't have any experience with uncleared 1shot..I'm thinking you're correct in your thinking though, hahaha!...Probably doesn't help much, sorry:)
If it's regular hairy brush,,, you're okay to leave it,,,
if it's airbrush,,, needs a clearcoat !!!
Airbrush is at best,,, overspray,, where paint is
concerned,,, it needs a coat of paint to hold and
stay,,, the lil shades/tints/shadows done with the
airbrush are not enough paint and will quickly go
the way of regular grit and grime on the vehicle !!!
1-shot's great paint,,, but,,, it does have limits,,,
about the best way to apply,, if no clearcoat is
going to be used,,, is wet on wet,,, this means that
all layers of paint must be applied over and before
anything dries,,, then it all bonds together with
no dry spots,, and makes a single layer of paint !!!
Good Luck on it,,, post them pics when done !!!

clean coat would be easier for me than using a heat light, what paint are you planning on using, do you intend to cleancoat the bike yourself

Thanks guys.. redneck using oneshot.. I saw someone else on here ask about spraying it..
So whit your saying if I airbrush oneshot I have to clear while it's still wet
Or do you think I should let it cure before clearing..
what I'm trying to do is not tear my bike down and have it ready to ride by the weekend..
It seems to me I've seen this done out in Sturgis but not sure what paint they used.. the only paint i can think of would be oneshot for durability..
Or do you know of any other kind of paint that I could use this way..
Planning on painting my white honda with a polarbear on an iceberg..and a pawprint on the back fender..

Sorry ABD you did help in letting me know you heard it too!!
Whit just read your thread again I get it I have to spray wet on wet to let the colors attatch to each other..
should be easy thats the way I paint I can never seem to wait for the paint to dry.. plus oneshot dries so slow...

Sharon , Wether I used it in the ab or with a Stripeing brush I allways added just a a few drops of the same hardner I am going to use in the clear thats going over it, But Ya really gota get that ab clean before it Kicks . It will speed up the curing time & make it more compatable with the clear coat. But I would do a test panel first to make sure the clear You use doesn,t have a bad reaction. I Use Evercoats clears & Never hada problem.

Not to steal your thread at all, but I've been asked by a friend to airbrush some small logo's onto his VW. He's just painted the car and doesn't want the hassle of clearing again afterwards, so if I use one shot will it be ok?, size is about 6x6 inches.

tomcat shoo!!! Just kidding your not stealing my thread your just asking a question that is being answered on here..
From what I've read so far you can spray one shot but you can't let it dry between coats.. and you need enough layering to build up the paint so it's a little thicker like a hairy brush.. (with me so far?) if you spray one shot like a regular air brush mist it will come off easier like overspray.. so like whit said it's called wet on wet.. this is where the blond hair comes in)) I don't have to clear coat it when it's wet on wet as long as it's not going to be rubbed or washed alot? (I think)!! you know what I'll try it let you know if It doesn't work I'll just have to take the bike apart this winter ad do it the other way>>
thanks for the help everyone..

Sharon, Cowboy has the right advice, along with Whit's wise words. One Shot is great stuff, but you will have to clear. So, two things will make it work best.
Its wise for you add a few drops of the hardener or catalyst from the clear coat material you're going to use to your reduced One Shot for the airbrushed work. You are best served to use the reducer that will be used for the clear coat as well, to keep all compatibility issues to a minimum.
Then make SURE your work is completely and thoroughly dry before clear coating, or it has the potential to delaminate.
Follow those two simple rules, you should be fine, but always test first.
Cheers!
