3m blue painter's tape nat. Any sort of "normal" masking tape won't release properly on a lot of surfaces.
For future reference.

Xzotic girl you have the most problems. Tape should not have pulled any original color off the jacket! If so it is a cheap jacket to start with or they had it colored by someone else. Let me tell ya a story. Once in the early 1970s I come across a sheep skin 3/4 coat beautiful ($350.00) The leather was a nice caramel color. The inside fur was beige with the tips dyed a beautiful sienna. The person that ordered it refused it because the cuffs were not identical. The cuffs were just rolled up no stitching. I go the coat for $150.00, 2 years later I took it to a furriers to have it cleaned. When I got it back almost all of the color was gone. The cleaning fluid used for cleaning furs washed out all of the color. The furriers refused to have it redyed and that was that.

OMG!! I can just see you scrambling to mix some color to match the leather and paint it!

I mostly use the 3M blue painter's tape on leather--the smooth blue tape with the orange inner label. It's for delicate surfaces and says (on the label) it can be left on for 60 days! I used it on a painting on illustration board done with E'tac recently and left it on the board for more than 60 days--when I pulled it up not one speck of paint came with it! I've also used this tape a lot lately on blank cardstock and paper envelopes, sprayed with both E'tac and Auto Air, clear coated with the usual 50/50 mix of E'tac Extend-air and Reduce-air, and again the tape has performed flawlessly. Of course it could just be the paint. But I definitely like this tape!
