Here's a painting of one of my favorite actor which I started last night. Working on a 20'' x 20'' pre-mounted gallery ready canvas with two coats of gesso and a good sanding between coats with a 320 grit paper.

Working with Holbein Aeroflash grey and black paint diluted with water (+/- 1:1 ratio). I started working with my new Iwata Micron SB.

I still have qhite a bit of work on all the highlights, skin texture, hat details, shirt, beard and mustache, etc. I'll be working these details with my Xacto blades erasers to scratch the surface as well as my Dremel bit to expose the white of the canvas with various intensities...this is when the painting comes alive!!

Another nice piece Luc, and a great subject! So, you "erase" some elements to achieve your highlights? That is a great tip, I am getting ready to try a realistic portrait like this and have lots of questions.

Hi Skid, right now, I have 5 hours on it (without canvas preparation) and I probably see another 5 to complete! I've got some major work to do on the wrinkles!!! Dont like the ones I've done so far.

Thanks

Thanks AirTodd. Right now, the only thing that could slow me down is a broken compressor!!...and I say slow me down!! I like to think ahead of what will be my next project. I've got this momentum going that I dont want to let go!!!!:)

Like now, even if I have about five hours to go which is at the most two evenings of work, I dont want to have too long of a down time between paintings so I'm already looking for my next subject!!

Here are some up to date pics.Still not finished.Worked on it for about 4 hours today but not pleased with the forehaed wrinkles. They stand out too much. The best I can do now is to add shadow to darken them.

My gosh!!! The hat look so real we'd say it's in 3D!!! It goes out the painting! (ça s'dit-tu ça en anglais?)

Just a litle major problem... sorry Luc but I need to be honest, it's for helping you : you didn't took the picture with a D80... :wink2:

To help everybody to understand the joke I was crying since 6 months because I wanted my cm-sb and to add presure to my wife, I decided to stop painting as long as I don't have it. Luc finaly send me an email on a friday, telling me he bought his cm-sb... before me! That was too much pressure for my wife and she decided to give me the money for my cm-sb! :)

And gess what I want for chrismast? Yes... a Nikon D80! :-) So I asked Luc to buy a D80 so my wife will buy one too! :)

Look forward for my birthday... I'll try a Ferrari! :partyalone:

nice work again luc! I would love to be able to scratch and erase to get those detailed effects. I'm just a bit nervous to take my dremel to a set of bike tins.

great job!

man, there may be something there Jason! picture this....white primer and base, layer of light gray, layer of med. gray, layer of dark gray, then cover it all in black....then a dremel with a cloth attachment....hmmmm

sorry for the hijack, please resume your normal viewing, nothing to see here...move along, move along... (hey Clem, can we borrow that straightjacket again???)
