Okay, got the new VL kit from fleabay all was well until I tried to hook up the hose to the brush. The connector won't seal at all, it's letting air out a bunch - it's one of them nice red real flexible clothy type ones not plastic - my guess and first thought is to just buy new hose and saw ppl talking bout a quick disconnect - where can I buy a new hose and that quick disconnect adapter??

AB and compressor came yesterday, Createx paint came today, brought a bunch of scrap coroplast and vinyl scraps home from sign shop so I could start playin and practicin ... now I'm dead in the water before I get started :(

Anyone point me in right direction for purchasing the parts online I need to get positive airflow....

TIA

Okay, took pictures of both hoses I have - the red one is the one that wont seal up (around the threads it seems, like the nut wont screw on all the way to get the stem sealed) and the blue one wont fit, the nut is too small to fit on the AB.

What D said on the hose,,,
What Shiva said on materials,,,
But Createx ain't gonna work good
on coro or vinyl either one !!!
Just get a roll of paper towels to play
on with that createx,,, works great
and not a bank breaker to play on !!!
Good Luck on your play time !!!
You'll be a Happy Camper in no time !!!

ima - the red hose end just "feels" wrong. It's like the basic compression fitting setup which I'm familiar with ( brake lines, fuel lines, cable lines, etc on the racecars) even though there's no actual compressing of the stem, it's like it's not seating properly within the pivot nut as well as having some movement in the hose end.

Probably best to just order new hose from Dixie along with the quick disconnect ?? Didn't try teflon tape on threads, but dont think the the threads themselves are the source of leak, it's like the nut (even with very light pressure using wrench) wont tighten far enough to make a seal between the stem and the AB.

Will grab some empty Oracal roll boxes from work and start shooting them for practice (them white cardboard boxes are nice :) ) Heck, got a ton of empty Oracal tubes I could play on too which ought to make for a quick lesson in painting on convex surface. (thoughts of being thrown into the lake and told to swim as a kid - learn to swim fast of drownd)
Will also stop by the local newspaper and see if they happen to have a "pull-off" I could have .... there's usually at least 30to40 yards of blank paper left on them :)

So, back to the hose - those are the better kind of hoses to have thought yes? Can I get an adaptor that'll fit the blue one to connect to the AB or just chalk that up to having it "in case" type thing? Also, is the quick disconnect a personal preference or one of those optional handy necessities that if you never had one you'd wouldnt miss it, but once you have one you'd never go back to being without it?

Fun yet??? Ummmm well, honestly while I've learned to control my emotions somewhat when starting something new & dealing with Adult ADHD and OCD, the current situation has me rethinking my initial thought of "why dont I learn to airbrush to expand my sign making skills and capabilities". Sometimes I get all jazzed about something and impatient, then when things don't work right away, I get frustrated & end up selling the whole kit & kaboodle to end the frustration. Wonder if I should cut back on the orange Mt Dew?? LOL

In any case, will try the red hose again and do the soap & water leakdown test, will snap pic of the end of red hose in AM, and step back for a couple mins and breathe....

I had the same problem with my Paasche VL. I returned the first one to the store because the hose didn't seal.

When I got the 2nd one home, it was the same deal. At that point I figured it must be something I was doing.

I figured Paasche sent a wrench in the box that fit the hose for a reason. I tightened the living daylights out of it - hasn't leaked in years. The hardest part is that it swivels as you are tightening it, so allow for that or the hose will end up going in a strange direction.

Crank down on it, it will behave.

What Clemson said, plus, you mentioned quick disconnects. You don't want a quick disconnect on the air hose/air brush connection. Once you crank down that hose fitting, there would be almost no reason whatsoever to ever remove it. A quick disconnect there would only add to weight and balance issues of the brush. You want the quick disconnect at the *other* end of the hose, where it plugs into your compressor/manifold/remote regulator.

LOL duct tape - you must be a redneck and racer to throw out an answer like that. (yes I have at least 7 different colors of duct tape in the race trailer - I R a redneck too)

will try cranking down with the wrench & scratch the quick disconnect off my shopping list.
Thanks guys/gals - I'll let ya know how the "hook-up" turns out.

I believe there are adapters out there but I haven't checked or heard about them in a long time.

Having fun yet? :D

there ARE adapters, readily available..
got a pair when I bought the Iwata AB that I traded off real quick.. 1 for the red hose and 1 for the Badger hose

okay - so I'm guessing the blue hose is a badger hose then?

Saw a Paasche D3000 compressor on fleabay (has the auto on/off, regulator, holding tank) looked like what some ya'll talked about what I shoulda gotten instead of the D500 ... that a good compressor or am I just blowing air out the hose on that one? pardon the pun, but gotta try and find humor in my non-painting situation

OH - hey, is there supposed to be a lil black rubber "O" ring in the swivel nut on the hose at the air brush end to help seal?
Cranked down with the lil wrench as hard as I dared to and did the soapy water test, a lil lil bit of tiny bubbles started forming around the nut but nothing like it WAS before I got medevil with the wrench. Guess for now it'll be okay to just shoot some dots and whatnot for practice yes?
So now do I leave the airbrush attached to the hose semi-permanant and just take it apart for clean-up with hose still on?

Ardy once you have your hose on you very rearly have to take it off to clean the AB, Just flush with water till it comes out clear..once and a while tear it down but you don't have to take the hose off to do it.. as for practice I used an old window you can wipe it off as much as you want and it helps you to figure out the thinning of the paint if it's to watery or pressure to high your paint will spider easier..

What ya'll think bout graph paper for practicing? Was thinking the lines may help learning control in following the lines or is going it freehand best?

Will step up from the lil Paasche wrench to my Snap-On and try again & add some teflon tape as well.

What's killin me the most is, I got a nice big roll of diagonal carbon fiber look vinyl for the racecars, just beggin for some highlights on it & I know it's gonna be awhile before I get good enough to do it.

k - I got some scrap computer paper (stupid fax spams I save to use the reverse clean side for notes and scribbles) and got some createx transparents, flourescents, and a botlle of black & white opaque - figure white paper, start with the black opaque yes? thin it out with water?
Boy trying to understand what I've been reading on here in the other posts about the dllfuting the paint and what pressure and whatnot has got me all frazzled and confused (dont take much, I'm blond)

Just remember, the thinner the paint, the lower the air pressure, as a general rule.
It's time for hands on practice my friend...you'll learn by making mistakes...just like the rest of us. You'll make "balls of death" (paint blobs), spiders (when you didn't want to), and all kinds of other things you will most likely swear at... but you'll get better with each practice session.

Balls of death and spiders .... cool, startin out in the gothic type stuff right off the bat, this could be fun! :D

I'll be a paintin fool all day tomorrow. In the words of SpongeBob (which my kids already expect me to paint for them) I'm Ready, I'm Ready, I'm Ready

Well, so much for gettin to shoot any paint yesterday - spent almost all day at the sign shop taking care of payroll, scheduling, catching up on jobs the co-op didnt get done, etc... sometimes being the mgr sucks LOL
Anyhow, decided to start looking for (and asking ya'll here first) a different compressor, one that might be a lil big for a straight out virgin beginner but one I can grow into some.
What's thoughts on this one? Good unit? Good price?

I'd say that Comp is dam near a spittin image of the one ya got..Cept for a Tank stuck on it....Better to build yers into the same thing for less $$$$ like ya mentioned before......If sound's not an issue..I'd get something like ya see at Sears..Couple Gallon tank..Maybe 1 or 2hp...They can handle mini guns and even big guns at short spurts...Run yer AB without kickin on to much..........

.If ya wanna get something to grow into..That's not the one (IMO)

I blew it off when he mentioned it BUT now thinking about it - I had a buddy who suggested just getting a big 2500psi air tank like I use in the race trailer ... BUT has anyone ever sprayed with nitrogen instead of ambient compressed air?
