what airbrush are you using? sorry if i missed it in another thread. maybe you could make a trip to the stores in your area and make a list of what's available to you and peeps can comment on what they've used in the past?
I have been at this maybe two months or so and a lot of folks may not agree with me but, I used food coloring in water while waiting for paint. About as cheep as you can get lets you get in some practice. Other may know better or other ways.
Hope this helps

If you don't mind the hassle of watering
down and straining,,, the lil craft acrylics
in wallyworld will work in a pinch !!!
Just don't complain if they don't work as
well as paints designed for airbrush !!!
Some of those go for about 50 cents a bottle !!!
Then again,,, awhile back I picked up,, at an
unclaimed freight place,, 124- 2oz bottles
all different colors createx for 50 cents a bottle
but had to take the whole lot,,, no prob !!!
Bargains are where you find them !!!

LOL Clem, that's what they use to decorate cakes! Of course it will work, its a super idea for practice, food grade dyes, suspended in water. Why not?
Whit you have given me an idea. We share a warehouse with an unclaimed freight guy, I'm going to check him out, great idea!
